Something's rotten in the house of Mimi. Mariah Carey and estranged husband Nick Cannon are being sued by a former nanny who claims she's owed unpaid overtime wages from when she worked for the stars a little over a year ago.
According to court documents filed Wednesday, Jan. 28, and obtained by Us Weekly, Simonette DaCosta took care of the couple's now-3-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, from October 2013 until Jan. 26, 2014, during which time she claims she worked between 84 hours and 120 hours per week.
In the docs, DaCosta alleges that she was on duty at all hours of the day, "with no entitlement for breaks, for meals, and even for sleep." She further claims that the "#Beautiful" singer would often call "at hours in the middle of the night and demand to be taken to her children or to be updated as to the status of her children."
When she interviewed for the job, the docs state, she was promised $350 per day. However, she routinely made between $3,000 and $3,600 every two weeks, even when she worked seven days a week. (According to DaCosta's filing, she either worked 12-hour shifts seven days a week, or 24-hour shifts five days a week.)
She was terminated, she alleges, after Carey "berat[ed] her for exhibiting too much affection towards her children."
DaCosta is now seeking the overtime pay she claims she should have received for working in excess of 40 hours per work week. The documents state that she wants "unpaid overtime wages, premium wages, liquidated damages, reasonable attorneys' fees, costs, pre-judgment interest, and all other appropriate legal relief under the law."
A rep for Carey had no comment.
