Brooks Laich

Brooks Laich is a former professional hockey player best known for his 12-season run with the Washington Capitals and his former marriage to dancer and actress Julianne Hough. Laich grew up playing hockey in Wawota, Canada, and began training seriously as a teenager. He played minor hockey in Saskatchewan before joining the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League at 17. He went on to pursue a professional hockey career following his time in the WHL.

Laich was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round of the 2001 NHL Draft. He began his professional career with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League before making his NHL debut in 2004. He was traded to the Capitals during his rookie season and went on to become a regular in Washington’s lineup.

Laich later played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings before finishing his professional career in 2018. He also represented Canada at the 2003 World Junior Championships, where the team won silver. After hockey, he remained in the public eye through fitness and podcast projects.

Laich began dating Hough in 2013. They became engaged in August 2015 and married in July 2017 before separating in May 2020. Their divorce was finalized in June 2022. Laich began dating former CrossFit athlete Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir in 2021 and they became engaged in December 2024. They welcomed daughter Emberly Heba Laich in October 2025 and tied the knot in August of the following year.
