Rachel Roy is an American fashion designer and author known for her eponymous fashion label and her work dressing celebrities and public figures. Roy was born in San Bernardino County, California, and was raised in Seaside, California. After graduating from Seaside High School, she attended Washington Adventist University before leaving to pursue a career in fashion in New York City.

Roy eventually rose to creative director of the women’s and children’s divisions of Rocawear. In 2004, she launched her eponymous fashion label, quickly earning recognition for her contemporary designs. She joined the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2007 and later expanded her business with the more affordable RACHEL Rachel Roy collection, which featured apparel, shoes and accessories.

In addition to her fashion collections, Roy has collaborated with major retailers and designers and has dressed high-profile clients including Michelle Obama, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Lucy Liu and Kim Kardashian. She is also the author of Design Your Life (2015) and, in 2019, she coauthored the novel 96 Words for Love with her daughter, Ava Dash. She has received industry recognition including an ACE Award and has served as a UN Women Champion for Innovation.

Roy was briefly married to professional basketball player Yinka Dare before marrying entrepreneur Damon Dash in 2005. The pair divorced in 2009. They share two daughters, Ava (born in 1999) and Tallulah (born in 2008).
