Finding the right balance! Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 21-year-old son, Joseph Baena, may be following in his father’s footsteps, but the former Mr. Universe doesn’t just have bodybuilding advice for him: He wants his son to focus on school too.
The Terminator actor, 71, revealed that it’s “key” for his youngest child to get a “business degree at Pepperdine” while speaking to Extra on Thursday, January 31. “Take care of your body, train hard if you’re passionate about that, but also study hard,” he said of his advice to his son.
Not only did Baena recreate one of his father’s iconic poses in a January 14 Instagram post, but the father-son pair posed for pics while working out later that week, along with a few other bodybuilders. “Getting a great pump with some of the strongest men in the world,” the California native captioned the photo spread.
Schwarzenegger has been training hard with his son, who “wants to do the classic physique competitions,” the father of five admitted. He even helped Baena set a new personal record.
“I put in 455 [to deadlift], which he has never lifted before, and he did two reps,” the action star said. “I saw him doing the first one, it was not too much of a struggle, so I said, ‘Come on do a second one! Go for the second one! Come on, Joseph!’”
The Golden Globe winner welcomed his son in 1997 with Mildred Baena, his former housekeeper, while married to his now-estranged wife, Maria Shriver. The couple are legally still married, although the I’ve Been Thinking … Reflections, Prayers and Meditations for a Meaningful Life author, 63, filed for divorce from the politician in 2011.
The ex-couple welcomed four children together after tying the knot in 1986: Katherine, 29, Christina, 27, Patrick, 25, and Christopher, 21.
