Lauren Swanson suffered a miscarriage in October 2018, and the Counting On star and her husband, Josiah Duggar, opened up about the tragedy.
“A couple months ago, we found out that we were expecting, but suddenly thereafter, we lost our baby,” Swanson, 19, said in a Monday, February 11, TLC announcement. The pair were standing outside in the video, their arms around each other.
“It really was a hard time for our family going through this right after we got married,” Duggar, 22, continued. “And all the dreams of getting to see our little one and hold it in our hands dashed before our eyes.”
The couple chose to open up about their miscarriage because “nobody really talks about it,” Swanson said. “We just wanted to let y’all know that you’re not alone.” Her husband went on to thank Counting On fans for their prayers.
Their experience will be shown on the upcoming season of the show, and TLC revealed a sneak peek of the episode. “I couldn’t believe it, and I was hoping it wasn’t true,” Swanson said in the clip with a tear running down her cheek. “It was the worst day of my life, really.”
She and her husband tied the knot in June 2018. “What a joy it is to be husband and wife!” the pair told Us Weekly in a statement the next day. “Our wedding day was absolutely perfect! What was even more perfect was to see my beautiful bride walking down the aisle. We are so thankful the Lord has brought us to this place and we can’t wait to begin our journey as husband and wife!”
They added: “It’s been especially fun to simply work on setting up our house together and just settle into life. We’re enjoying dreaming and thinking of the future together.”
Counting On season 4 premieres on TLC Monday, February 11, at 9 p.m. ET.
