Brandi Glanville claimed that she spent a hefty amount of money to get her retirement fund back following her divorce from Eddie Cibrian.
“I had to hire a lawyer to get my own 401K back from [my ex-huband]. He was trying to keep it,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 53, claimed in a Wednesday, June 3, Instagram Reel from her “Unfiltered” podcast. “It cost me over $10,000.”
Glanville claimed this occurred after she and Cibrian divorced in 2010 and it took a full “year.” She shared that she had qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) preparation which is the process of drafting a specialized legal document that divides retirement benefits, including a 401K or pension, between divorcing spouses. Glanville alleged that Cibrian “didn’t want to give” her the 401K in her name, so she sought out a lawyer to get it back.
The reality star also hinted that there was “something happening right now” that she is “worried” about.
“I’m going to have to get a lawyer to fight, which is so ridiculous,” she said. “I don’t want that for anyone.”
Glanville had some advice for current Real Housewives stars to get their personal finances in order just in case divorce comes up in their futures.
“That goes back to Housewives, they’re all getting divorced and half of them don’t even have a 401K,” she said. “Get your s*** together ladies. Know where the money is.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Cibrian for comment.
Glanville and Cibrian tied the knot in 2001. The exes share sons Mason and Jake, whom they welcomed in 2003 and 2007, respectively. Glanville and the Sunset Beach actor split in 2009 after Cibrian had an affair with now-wife LeAnn Rimes. They divorced in 2010 and Cibrian moved on with Rimes the following year.
Earlier this year, Glanville threw shade at Rimes following rumors that the singer was in the running to join The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. (Glanville appeared on the Bravo series from seasons 2 to 5.)
“I hope it’s true about RHOBH,” Glanville tweeted last month, reacting to the speculation. “I mean, she got everything else of mine — husband, kids, boobs, bronco, random illnesses. She might as well just be a housewife and finish it off once and for all.”
Rimes, for her part, addressed the speculation on social media, sharing that she wasn’t planning on doing any reality TV anytime soon.
“No, no…. no housewives for me,” Rimes wrote via Instagram one day later. “Playing Dixie on 911 Nashville is [enough] drama for me.”
