It’s over. Christie Brinkley and John Mellencamp have split after one year of dating, Us Weekly can confirm.
“Both the milage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship,” a rep for the couple tells Us. “They vowed to remain best of friends.”
Mellencamp, 64, is currently gearing up for a new leg of his Plain Spoken tour — which continues in Bristow, Virginia, on September 17 — while Brinkley, 62, has been busy in recent months promoting Bellissima, her new prosecco.
The duo first stepped out as a couple in September 2015 when they went on a dinner date in New York City. Two months later, she opened up about her new relationship during an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM.
“I’m leery of discussing my relationship because I don’t want to jinx it,” the supermodel told the radio DJ when asked if she’d marry the singer-songwriter. “I feel like I was so dragged through the press [I don’t want that again].”
She also briefly spoke about her budding romance on The Wendy Williams Show in November 2015, explaining, “I’m just having fun, and you know, we’ll see. … I mean, we’re dating and, you know, having a good time.”
Brinkley has had her fair share of relationships gone wrong over the years. She was previously married to Billy Joel, Richard Taubman, Jean-François Allaux and Peter Cook. Brinkley and Cook’s 12-year marriage ended in a bitter divorce in 2008 (following his affair with an 18-year-old assistant) and a lengthy custody battle.
The blonde bombshell is mom of three children: Alexa Ray Joel, 30, Jack Brinkley-Cook, 21, and Sailor Brinkley-Cook, 18. The “Hurts So Good” rocker — who was married to Priscilla Esterline, Victoria Granucci and Elaine Irwin — is dad of five: Michelle, Teddi Jo, Justice, Speck and Hud.
