Flipping the script. Donald Trump said in a new interview that Hillary Clinton was kind in her concession phone call to him following his win of the presidency on Tuesday, November 8.
“So, Hillary called, and it was a lovely call, and it was a tough call for her I mean, I can imagine,” the president-elect, 70, told 60 Minutes’ Lesley Stahl in an interview set to air on Sunday, November 13. “Tougher for her than it would have been for me. I mean, for me, it would have been very, very difficult.”
“She couldn’t have been nicer,” Trump continued. “She just said, ‘Congratulations, Donald, well done.’ And I said, ‘I want to thank you very much, you were a great competitor.’ She is very strong and very smart.”
In addition to his conversation with the former secretary of state, the real estate mogul also had a separate conversation with her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
“He couldn’t have been more gracious,” Trump said of the former president’s call. “He said it was an amazing run. One of the most amazing he’s ever seen. He was very, very, really, very nice.”
During the presidential campaign’s last few months, Trump famously responded to numerous accusations of sexual assault with the defense that Bill had similar allegations against him during his time in office.
On Sunday, October 9, less than an hour before the second presidential debate, the former Apprentice host held a press conference with a group of women who had accused the former president of sexual assault. The women later joined the Trump family in the audience at the evening’s presidential debate.
Asked by Stahl about whether he would ask Bill Clinton for advice during his time in office, Trump responded, “Well, he’s a very talented guy, I mean, a very talented family. Certainly, I would certainly think about that.”
