Elizabeth Chambers Says She Has No Plans to Marry Again After Divorce: ‘I Spent Years Getting Unmarried’

Elizabeth Chambers is officially ruling out the possibility of getting married again anytime soon following her divorce from ex-husband Armie Hammer.

“Absolutely not. I spent years getting unmarried. Why would I [get married] again?” Chambers, 44, exclusively told Us while promoting her new podcast, “The Dash,” with Lemonada Media.

Chambers and Hammer, 40, announced their separation in July 2020, confirming they’d decided to “turn the page and move on from our marriage” after 10 years. It took three more years of negotiations before the former couple settled their divorce in 2023. (Chambers and Hammer share two children: daughter Harper, 12, and son Ford, 9.)

The podcaster and TV host told Us that divorce was “the last thing” she and Hammer ever wanted.

“We went in full on,” she added. “And I have friends that are like, ‘Oh, I’m not even sad because I never really liked him in the first place.’ That was not me and I don’t think that was [podcast cohost] Marissa [Hermer, who separated from husband Matt Hermer in 2024]. I thought I found my person for life, and I really believed in monogamy, and I really believed in the most important thing is family, and it is.”

Chambers mentioned that one of the key lessons she learned from her divorce is that you can’t “control” the actions of others.

“I remember praying every day, being like, ‘How is this my life? I have the most amazing kids. I have the most amazing family. I have the most [amazing] everything,’” Chambers recalled. “It was so precious that when you put things on such a pedestal, it’s so fragile, right? Like, in a weird way, at any point I can’t make a decision as to how this goes all on my own, and so that’s the beauty of marriage in a lot of ways because it is so precious, and it has to be protected.”

She continued, “I just don’t know that I would ever trust anyone to protect my heart like that again. And that’s just like me in a therapy session right now.”

Despite the very public nature of her divorce, Chambers insisted that she “wouldn’t change a thing now.”

“[It] is wild because my biggest fear became my biggest joy, and I love my life so f***ing much, and I would not change a single thing other than protecting my kids a little bit more from information they might find out later down the road,” she said. “That was not necessarily [due to] me but everything happens just like it’s supposed to and I don’t think you can say that in the good times and not say it in the hard times.”

As for how Chambers shielded her children from the very public nature of her split from Hammer, she said, “My kids are with me all the time. I think, at the end of the day, all they need to know is that they have two parents that love them, right? Everything else is just noise. Things that we read in headlines or things that people think are salacious news — it doesn’t really matter when it comes to kids.”

“All that matters is that they know they have their family [and] have unconditional love from both parents, and they do. At the end of the day, that is all that matters,” she pointed out. “And surrounding them with really good people, which we have such great friends and such a great community. There was a time that I was worried, and that was my life mission [was to] make sure that I mitigated any trauma. [My kids are] so great because they know they have parents that show them they love them every day and tell them, and they see it. They see how much love they have around them. I think that’s all that matters. As adults we can overthink things as well, but … sometimes it’s not that deep.”

Chambers and podcast cohost Hermer, 44, delve candidly into dating, sex, motherhood and more on their podcast “The Dash.” Speaking to Us, the duo addressed whether there were any off-limit topics on “The Dash.”

“The only thing that matters is our kids,” Chambers explained. “Obviously, divorce in [and] of itself is trauma. We don’t inflict any more of that, but also like we want [guests] to be themselves.”

The “Dash” hosts noted that their intent is never to come off as “unhinged or inappropriate” with their discussions, nor do they want to “embarrass” or “offend” their children. (Marissa and ex Matt share sons Max and Jake as well as daughter Sadie.)

“At the same time, like for me and the way that I frame it to my children, it’s like it’s feminism, right?” Chambers told Us. “For so long, people, men, the patriarchy have not wanted us to claim this and not need them necessarily, or treat them like they’ve treated [us]. … I think the biggest thing is just protecting our kids at all costs.”

“The Dash” releases new episodes Tuesdays.
