“It’s pretty scary when even Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are like, ‘Eh, I can do better,'” Fallon told the Tonight Show audience about the couple’s split after two years of marriage.

As Us Weekly previously reported, Jolie, 41, filed divorce documents on Monday, September 19, citing irreconcilable differences. (Find out more details of their split in the video above.)

“You know, there are a lot of important and life-threatening and world-changing things going on lately,” Kimmel said on Tuesday night. “Sometimes it seems like more than ever, but none of them are as foundation-shaking as the news we received about Brad and Angelina today.”

The host joked that while the headline-making turn of events was “very sad” for Jolie and the World War Z actor, 52, it was “also very great news” for Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift, as the recently split couple will be knocked off the covers of magazines by this breaking news.

“Apparently the reason they’re getting divorced is she talked about Fight Club and he specifically asked her not to do that,” continued Kimmel, who officiated the 2015 wedding of Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, to Justin Theroux. “It’s always hard when two people you don’t know and have no personal connection to split up.”

Stephen Colbert kicked off his Late Show monologue by saying that he hoped that viewers were “with a loved one tonight” because he had “some terrible news” to share. “That’s right, no more Brangelina,” he continued. They’re just going to be ‘Gelina’ and ‘Bran’ now.” He added that the divorce papers were filed on Monday “citing irreconcilable attractiveness.”

O’Brien, meanwhile, quipped that the couple will “share custody 50/50. He’ll take 50 kids, she’ll take the other 50.”

In her divorce filing, the Maleficent star requested physical custody of the couple’s six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8. She requested that Pitt — who she began dating after meeting on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004 — receive joint legal custody.
