Matt Damon Reflects on Successful Marriages in His Response to Ben Affleck Split Question

Matt Damond reflected about successful marriages in response to a question about his best friend Ben Affleck's split from Jennifer Garner, saying his old pal was "good."

Matt Damon was one of the lucky ones. The actor revealed in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that his best friend Ben Affleck has been "good" after the Gone Girl star split from Jennifer Garner, and further reflected about what makes a successful marriage.

While Damon, 44, wasn't able to join Affleck for his 43rd birthday festivities at Disney World in Orlando, Fla., the weekend of Aug. 15, he did shed some insight on how his longtime pal has been faring after announcing his separation from Garner on June 30.

"I was in Boston with my family actually," he explained of why he didn't participate in Affleck's birthday celebration. The Interstellar star added that his friend was doing fine after the breakup and his subsequent nanny scandal. "He's good," Damon claimed. "He's good."

Meanwhile, the Bourne series franchise's lead has been looking forward to celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary with his wife, Luciana, this December. While Damon said he "wouldn't give anybody any advice" about a successful marriage, he shared some tidbits about what makes his personal romance work.

"I think marriage is insane," Damon confessed. "It's a crazy idea but I love being married to my wife. So I wouldn't tell anybody else about their relationship. But I'm lucky I found my wife. And I guess maybe, if there's any secret … it's to feel lucky."

He continued in his junket for The Martian: "So much of it is out of your hands. I mean, I just had that conversation with my father this weekend. He says the same thing to me. Says it's God's grace, is what he said. Because you just don't get lucky."

Indeed, things have not been ideal between his buddy Affleck and Garner since their split announcement. Us Weekly broke the news last month that the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor was dating their former nanny Christine Ouzounian. (His rep, meanwhile, has denied "all allegations of a romantic relationship" between the actor and the Arizona State University communications grad as "baseless and untrue.") After the nanny news broke, a source close to Garner said that the actress was "disgusted."

Affleck, meanwhile, stepped out with his estranged wife and his three kids this past weekend to mark another year around the sun. At one point, he and Garner were spotted riding on the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction together.

“This was all he wanted to do for his birthday, go to Disney World with his family and that included Jen,” a source told Us Weekly. “They planned this and all went to Orlando together."
