Band, DJ…or 1980s rock concert? Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry made sure their wedding this weekend was extra-memorable — turning their reception into a live show with performances from several bonafide '80s rock stars.
Backed by '80s cover group Flashback Heart Attack, singers from groups including Berlin, Bow Wow Wow, and Missing Persons took the stage to entertain guests at the couple's nuptials. (As reported by TMZ, there was also a performance by Tobey Maguire's young daughter, Ruby, who belted out "Girls Just Want to Have Fun.") Annabella Lwin, of the English new wave band Bow Wow Wow, sang her group's hit song "I Want Candy," while The Motels' frontwoman Martha Davis crooned their trademark track "Only the Lonely."
Missing Persons singer Dale Bozzio got in on the action, too, with performances of "Destination Unknown" and "Walking in L.A." And Berlin's Terri Nunn sang "The Metro," "Take My Breath Away," "Highway to Hell," and "Sex (I'm A…)," the latter of which featured a special guest appearance from newlywed Perry.
Perry, of course, has some pretty solid rock credentials herself. She fronted the early '90s band 4 Non Blondes, and has found major success as a pop songwriter, with hits including Pink's "Get the Party Started," Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," and Britney Spears' "Girls & Boys."
"Sara's favorite bands are '80s girl bands, so Linda put the whole thing together to surprise her," an insider tells Us Weekly of the concert. "It was all a big surprise for Sara! She was dying."
The Talk co-host Gilbert, 39, first revealed her engagement to Perry, 48, back in April 2013. The two started dating in 2011, after the former Roseanne star split from TV producer Alison Adler, with whom she has two kids, son Levi, 9, and daughter Sawyer, 6.
