Savannah Guthrie said she was “so touched” by Allison Janney’s shout-out at the 2026 Emmy Awards amid the ongoing search for her missing mom, Nancy Guthrie.
Following her win at the awards show on Monday, September 14, Janney, 66, told reporters backstage that she thinks about Savannah, 54, and her family “every day.”
“I think all of America is thinking about her,” the Mom alum added.
Savannah reacted to Janney’s message during the Tuesday, September 15, episode of the Today show, thanking the actress for her kind words while celebrating her win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in The Diplomat.
“Her moment, her triumph, and for her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family,” Savannah said on Tuesday. “I never let a moment pass, if I get one, to talk about my mom and how much we miss her and love her.”
The news anchor added that her “whole family,” including sister Annie and brother Camron, is “in such pain” as they search for answers following Nancy’s disappearance in February.
“We just need help, so thank you, Allison Janney, for remembering us and for giving an opportunity for me to renew that call,” Savannah concluded. “We just want our mom home [to] give her a proper goodbye.”
Nancy, 84, was last seen by her family on the evening of January 31. Authorities believe she was abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1. Despite ongoing forensic analysis and a combined reward exceeding $1.2 million, police in Pima County and the FBI have not yet identified any suspects or had any breakthroughs in the case.
In July, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department released two ransom notes sent to local and national news outlets in an effort to identify the authors by asking the public to reach out if they recognized the “unique linguistic style.”
The first note, which was sent to KOLD-TV 13 News, a local CBS affiliate in Tucson, one day after Nancy was reported missing, was addressed to Savannah.
“We have your mother, Nancy. She is safe but scared,” the note read. “She will be held for ransom, and once payment is received, she will be released unharmed. We will be holding her for a maximum of 7 days.”
The note warned that Nancy would be “killed” if a payment of $4 million to $6 million was not received by a given deadline.
The second note was sent to KOLD on February 6 and addressed to the “Guthrie Family,” referencing the state of Nancy’s health.
“We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition,” the note read. “We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart-related. She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry.”
