Scarlett Johansson admittedly still struggles to appropriately balance her thriving career and a personal life.
“I think actually admitting that there is no work-life balance is the first step to kind of getting there in a way because it’s just not possible,” Johansson, 41, recently said on CBS Sunday Morning. “There’s always something that is a deficit in some area, and … I’ve learned to be more kind to myself in that way.”
Johansson, who reportedly boasts a $165 million net worth, is the second highest-grossing actor of all time behind Zoe Saldaña. She also launched a successful skincare brand, The Outset, in 2022.
“You can’t do all these things all the time,” the mom of two added. “There’s just like, ‘Is it good enough?’”
Johansson balances her work commitments with her family. She shares daughter Rose, 11, with ex Romain Dauriac and son Cosmo, 4, with husband Colin Jost. Both children inspired her Outset mission.
“Kids are so, I would say preadolescence, [have a] vocabulary and knowledge of skincare and curiosity about it,” she said at the time. “It’s so much broader than what I grew up with. I always say to [my daughter], ‘Your skin is, you know, your body’s largest organ. Be gentle on yourself. There’s going to be a whole bunch of products out there that are going to make all these promises for you, and it can really disrupt your skin barrier.’”
As a result, Johansson has made sure that Rose only uses beauty products without any “harsh” chemicals.
“She’s making conscious choices, [and] I think that’s important.” Johansson said. “Of course with all her makeup and all that, I’m like, ‘That’s so fun to experiment with,’ but I’m like, ‘You have beautiful baby skin. Just be gentle on it like you would for the rest of your body.”
Johansson also revealed that she often uses Jost, 43, as a “guinea pig” for her new products before a launch.
“Now, luckily, we have like a whole office full of guinea pigs but at the beginning when we first started formulating, it was in the middle of COVID,” she recalled. “My breadth of people
that I had to work with was very reduced, and so Colin was our guinea pig for everything, and it was actually helpful.”
Johansson continued, “He used his products, he had his routine, but it was helpful to have somebody that didn’t necessarily have a 14-step skincare routine to try stuff out on.”
