When Jessica Simpson’s eponymous clothing and accessories collection hit its 10-year anniversary in 2015, it also marked another significant milestone: bringing in $1 billion in sales. At the time, the Texas-born mom of Maxwell and Ace (with husband Eric Johnson) reportedly boasted a net worth of $170 million, and a source revealed she “still does very, very well.”
Though her endorsement deals have lapsed, the onetime face of Weight Watchers (she inked $4 million for the deal) draws plenty of income from her growing empire, which encompasses jewelry, fragrances and home goods. Some of the cash goes to her family’s chef and wardrobe, but her biggest expenses tend to be travel. “She spares no expense paying for family and friends,” said the source of the star, who loves visiting Cabo San Lucas. “She always treats everyone and goes all out with spa treatments for all of them.”
Being number one never goes out of style. After breaking records with the success of her 1989 tour in 2015, Swift brought home $170 million in 2017, making her the top-earning celebrity of 2016.
The multihyphenate has earned $38 million just in 2017, and she’s not afraid to spend it. Although her love can’t be bought, her June 2017 Paris trip with Alex Rodriguez cost upward of $300,000 according to E! News.
The makeup titan is the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner siblings — and of Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list. Ranked No. 59 in 2017, she pulls in $41 million between sponsored social posts (up to $300,000 each), her roles on Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Life of Kylie and, of course, her beauty line. Kylie Cosmetics — which peddles her in-demand lip kits — raked in $420 million in its first 18 months. And Women’s Wear Daily reports it’s on pace to hit the $1 billion mark by 2022. “Kylie spends so much time developing products, she knew it would be big,” a source told Us Weekly of the star, “but she didn’t realize the speed with which it’d become what it is.”
Despite the rapid growth, she balances “savvy financial decisions” with splurges, said the source. In addition to three homes in Calabasas, California, she maintains an extensive car collection (hello, orange Lamborghini Aventador!), treats herself to jewelry and Barbie-themed artwork and is “really generous” to her friends, assistants and glam squad, added the source: “She’s known for throwing elaborate surprise parties.”
Jessica Alba has been playing the long game. “I made a lot of money in entertainment at a very young age and I saved it,” she said of acting at Forbes' third annual Women's Summit. Instead of searching for creatively fulfilling roles, the star focused on the ones with the best paychecks. “I was very deliberate about it.”
She’s applied the same discipline to the Honest Company. Since founding the business in 2012, the entrepreneur, wed to Cash Warren, has helped it evolve from a $10 million line of nontoxic baby products to a $150 million powerhouse of household cleaning and beauty products, with skincare set to launch in August 2017. With the company predicted to draw more than $250 million by the end of 2017, and Alba purported to hold up to a 20 percent stake, her net worth could hover near $200 million. The mom of Honor and Haven has told Market Watch that she tends “toward the frugal,” but she did spend on a seven-bedroom Beverly Hills spread for her expanding family.
Now running two fashion brands (The Row, Elizabeth and James), the twins started Dualstar Entertainment at age 6, when they “couldn’t see over the top of the table,” Ashley Olsen has said.
