That’s so meta! Brian Williams reported on NBC Nightly News on Wednesday, July 30, that his daughter, Allison Williams, had been cast as Peter Pan in NBC’s upcoming live musical production.
“Just today, NBC announced Allison Williams will play the role of Peter Pan,” the esteemed anchor, 55, said. “The actress and singer is currently on the cast of Girls on HBO.”
Joking—yet still impressively maintaining a straight face—he added: “Family members confirm she’s been rehearsing for this role since the age of 3, and they look forward to seeing her fly.” Producers then flashed across the screen a throwback picture of the actress as a child, decked out in green Peter Pan garb.
The Girls star gushed about the casting announcement earlier that day, saying in a press release: “I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about 3 years old, so this is a dream come true.” She also joked on Instagram, alongside the same throwback pic of herself: “Thrilled to be playing Peter Pan live on NBC in December. I’ve been rehearsing for a REALLY long time.”
The 26-year-old star will play Pan opposite Christopher Walken as villain Captain Hook. She’s previously showed off her singing chops on Girls as well as in the viral 2010 mash-up of Mad Men‘s theme song.
Peter Pan Live! will air Dec. 4. Watch B-Dubs announce the news of A-Dubs above!
