MTV VMAs 2016: Rihanna and Kanye West’s Sweet Moment, Ariana Grande’s Lovefest and More Things You Didn’t See on TV

Time to catch up! Beyonce may have hit it out of the park (with a baseball bat), but so much more went down at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards that wasn’t caught on camera. (You can catch our top 5 on-screen moments in the video above!)

While viewers paid attention to the stage, plenty of shenanigans happened in the audience. Some of the highlights? Drake wasn’t the only one who had eyes for Rihanna — and a certain Teen Mom star did whatever it took to snag a selfie with Kanye West.

Here, Us Weekly — thanks to our reporters inside the event at NYC’s Madison Square Garden — has rounded up what you didn’t see on TV:

Kim Kardashian and Her BFF Knocked Over an Attendee

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and Jonathan Cheben knocked into a man when they tried to rush to their front-row seats seconds before the show began. All celebs and seat fillers sat on the ground floor while a quarter of Madison Square Garden remained empty.

Rihanna and Kanye Have a Moment

The “Kiss It Better” singer, who received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, gave the rapper a sweet smile from the stage during her first of four performances. West then waved his arms and motioned for the audience to stand up. After the set (when she sang “We Found Love” and “Where Have You Been”), West rubbed shoulders with Swizz Beatz and 2 Chainz and gave Nick Jonas a high-five.

Kimye Meets Final Five Gymnasts and Mothers of Gun Violence Victims

USA Olympians Aly Raisman, Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian mustered up the nerve to introduce themselves to Kardashian and West. The group chatted during a commercial break and took photos together. (As previously reported, gymnast Gabby Douglas was hospitalized for a “seriously infected” mouth injury and couldn’t attend the star-studded event.)

At one point, Kardashian and West spoke with the mothers of fallen African American victims of gun violence that Beyoncé brought to the show. West took photos with all of them and spoke to each individually.

The parents of two were approached by several showgoers for the first half of the show. Others included Catfish’s Nev Schulman and his pregnant fiancée, Laura Perlongo, Hailey Baldwin and Chance the Rapper.

Tinashe Smiles Big During Calvin Harris’ Win

The R&B singer clapped and beamed when the Scottish DJ won in the Best Male Video category for his summer smash hit “This Is What You Came For.” Tinashe and Harris went on a date in July, one month after he announced his split from Taylor Swift.

Ariana Grande Gets Cozy With Mac Miller

The “Side to Side” singer didn’t hide her new romance with the rapper. Miller had his arm around Grande for most of the night, and the two held hands when they left together after Britney Spears’ stellar performance.

Last week, the pair were spotted kissing during a romantic dinner date in Encino, California, on Sunday, August 21. They previously collaborated on her 2013 song “The Way” and a new remix for “Into You.”

Jayden Smith Keeps It Casual

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s son brought along his girlfriend, Sarah Synder, to the show. They sat five rows behind Grande and Miller, but kept their hands to themselves for the PDA-free outing.

Gary Shirley Is a Really, Really Big Yeezy Fan

The Teen Mom vet, who sat next to Farrah Abraham, pushed several people out of the way to get a selfie with the “Famous” rapper toward the end of the show. He also got a photo with Chance the Rapper.

Britney Spears Makes a Quick Exit

Gotta go, bye! The “Clumsy” singer smiled and waved to the crowd before rushing off stage following her “Make Me …” performance.

Kim Keeps Tabs on Kanye

The Selfish author asked her bodyguard where West was just before Beyoncé was presented with the Video of the Year award for “Formation.” West was 19 rows back speaking with Chance the Rapper, but made it back to his seat just in time.
