Gary Shirley

Indiana-born Gary Shirley gained notoriety as one of three dads featured on the hit MTV reality show Teen Mom.

Born November 17, 1986, Shirley welcomed daughter Leah in November 2008 with then-fiancee Amber Portwood. Despite his devotion to Portwood, the pair’s constant screaming matches have resulted in several splits, followed by several reconciliations. (Shirley even re-proposed to his longtime love in season two of Teen Mom.)

The twosome’s most infamous break-up happened in the second season of the reality hit, when Portwood was captured on film by MTV cameras punching and kicking Shirley. The dramatic fight led the Anderson, Indiana police department to launch a domestic abuse investigation against Portwood. In December 2010, she was charged with domestic battery, forced to spend a night behind bars and barred from having contact with Shirley.

In February 2011, Shirley requested that a judge lift the restraining order so the couple could give their relationship another try.
