Stephen Colbert is praying for Donald Trump! The future Late Show host said on a Television Critics Association panel discussing his new show on Monday, Aug. 10, that he's seriously hoping the political hopeful will stay in the Republican race until the new iteration of the Late Show debuts on CBS Sept. 8.
"I just hope that he's taking his vitamins. Please stay healthy until I get on the air," the comedian pleaded. "Don't do anything dangerous; don't ride any motorcycles."
With less than a month to go until the new version of the late-night institution premieres, Colbert is aching to take on The Apprentice star's presidential run. "I just want to say that every little boy grows up believing that they could be president of the United States, and I'm so happy that little boy is Donald Trump," the former Colbert Report star said.
He's sending good vibes to Trump: "Every night before I go to bed, I light a candle and pray that he stays in the race, and I also pray that no one puts that candle anywhere near his hair."
Colbert's first guest will be George Clooney — if someone remembers to tell the megastar — and his first musical guest will be Kendrick Lamar.
"I wish I could have done better than George Clooney as the first guest. I hope somebody has let him know," the host, 51, joked. "It's gonna be very awkward if he doesn't show up on Sept. 8. I like George Clooney because, I mean, he's a brilliant actor, a great director, and he cares about the world. How many celebrities have their own spy satellite? I'm gonna ask him if I can have the keys."
