The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14.
The critically acclaimed HBO Max show won over The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbors.
Producer R. Scott Gemmill accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew. Earlier in the ceremony, Noah Wyle, who plays Senior Emergency Attending Physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second year in a row.
Of the Outstanding Drama Series contenders, The Pitt landed the most overall nominations with 25. Prior to the Monday awards show, the HBO drama won Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
During its first Emmys run, Pluribus followed close behind with 18 nominations. The Apple TV series took home four awards at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Picture Editing, Production Design, Sound Mixing, and Main Title Theme Music.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms received nine nominations and won Outstanding Stunt Performance during the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Slow Horses also received nine nods while The Gilded Age earned eight.
Both The Diplomat and Paradise earned seven nominations. During the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the Hulu apocalyptic drama took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Shailene Woodley’s performance as Annie.
Your Friends & Neighbors, which stars Jon Hamm, received its sole nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.
Last year, The Pitt took home the trophy for Outstanding Drama Series for its inaugural season.
“This is insane. Thank you so much to the Academy. I want to thank everyone at Warner Bros. Channing, for believing in the show from the get-go. Sara, Casey and Joey at HBO Max for nurturing and supporting our show,” the medical drama’s creator Gemmill said in his acceptance speech. “To our amazing cast and crew and writers and directors, we wouldn’t be here without you guys.”
Gemmill also dedicated the award to first responders and healthcare workers.
“Respect them, protect them, trust them,” he said. “Thank you.”
