If there were an awards show for awards show hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler would sweep every category. With their witty repartee and lighthearted ribbing of stars like George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio, the Saturday Night Live alums and BFFs were the golden girls of the Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 12. They poked fun at everything from Julia Louis-Dreyfus' dual nominations to Matthew McConaughey's weight loss in Dallas Buyers Club.
One of their funniest and most pointed jabs came midway through the show, when Fey introduced DiCaprio as a presenter. "And now, like a supermodel's vagina," she began, "let's all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio." (The broadcast actually blacked out momentarily on the tail end of this joke, as if the NBC censors had tried and failed to catch it.)
The Wolf of Wall Street star — who won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical — is famous for dating supermodels. His ex-girlfriends include Gisele Bundchen, Erin Heatherton, and Bar Refaeli.
The hostesses also poked fun at the actor's costar Jonah Hill. "The Wolf of Wall Street is another nominee tonight," Poehler said in the duo's opening monologue. "I really loved the film, but some of it was too graphic. I mean, if I wanted to see Jonah Hill masturbate at a pool party, I'd go to one of Jonah Hill's pool parties."
Added Fey: "Jonah Hill actually used a prosthetic penis in The Wolf of Wall Street. So you have that to look forward to next time you eat at Planet Hollywood."
They went on to joke about Captain Phillips nominee Tom Hanks. "Now, a number of big movies used prosthetic genitals this year. Blue is the Warmest Color, The Wolf of Wall Street, Saving Mr. Banks. Yes, a lot of people don't know, but Tom Hanks was wearing one the entire time," Poehler quipped. "He's wearing one right now, actually. He's really enjoying it. He's so happy about it."
Below, check out some of Fey and Poehler's other jokes and jabs:
Fey, on Best Motion Picture Drama nominee Gravity: "Gravity is nominated for Best Film. It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age [Sandra Bullock]."
Poehler, on Best TV Series Drama nominee Masters of Sex: "Masters of Sex is the degree I got from Boston College." (This was followed by a high-five between the Parks and Recreation winner and Fey.)
Poehler, on Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie nominee Matt Damon: "Matt Damon is here, for Behind the Candelabra. Matt, on any other night, in any other room, you would be a big deal. But tonight — and don't take this the wrong way — you're basically a garbage person."
Fey, on Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama nominee Matthew McConaughey: "Matthew McConaughey did amazing work this year. For his role in Dallas Buyers Club, he lost 45 pounds. Or what actresses call 'being in a movie.'"
Poehler, on Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture nominee Barkhad Abdi: "Before earning a Golden Globe nomination for his first-ever acting role in Captain Phillips, Barkhad Abdi was working as a limousine driver in Minnesota. There's such a beautiful life lesson here, everyone: Sleep with your limo driver tonight. Before he gets famous."
