’10 Things I Hate About You’ Cast: Where Are Julia Stiles, Gabrielle Union and More Now?

Too good to be true! The beloved 10 Things I Hate About You made its debut on March 31, 1999, and more than two decades later, fans are still talking about the romantic comedy. Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger played star-crossed lovers Kat Stratford and Patrick Verona, respectively. The pair reluctantly fell in love with each other amid a backdrop of high school angst. Meanwhile, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cameron James), Gabrielle Union (Chastity), Allison Janney (Ms. Perky), David Krumholtz (Michael Eckman), Larisa Oleynik (Bianca Stratford), Andrew Keegan (Joey Donner) and Susan May Pratt (Mandella) made up the star-studded supporting cast.

“I have so many great memories from that movie that are fading because it has been 20 years,” the Save the Last Dance actress told Us in February 2019. “But it was just such a special time where we were all so excited. It was exciting and we were all very young and nobody was jaded so we were all very open to the experience and to each other. It was just a really, really fun summer.”

Stiles continued: “It was my first big job and I really loved that part because I hadn’t seen the character of a teenage girl so feisty before and that just felt really refreshing and I was really, really happy to be a part of it."

However, Ledger died at age 28 from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008. After his untimely death in January 2008, Ledger was given the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his appearance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. His legacy lives on in daughter Matilda, whom he shares with Dawson’s Creek alum Michelle Williams. Matilda has inherited her late father’s estate.

“We really, really liked hanging out together, and that kind of thing doesn’t actually always happen,” Levitt, a.k.a. pining Cameron, said of the cast. The actor’s cred only rose after the film, with parts in 500 Days of Summer, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises. He and wife Tasha McCauley have two sons.

Oleynik, a.k.a. little sis Bianca, was already a teen idol when she made her major film debut in 10 Things, with beloved roles as Dawn in The Baby-Sitters Club, Alex Mack on the hit Nickelodeon show by the same name and Shawn’s love interest Dana Pruitt on Boy Meets World. After 10 Things I Hate About You, she appeared on Pretty Little Liars, Mad Men and Hawaii Five-0.

Janney earned an Academy Award for I, Tonya in 2018 and multiple Emmy awards for Mom, The West Wing and her other TV roles. The Golden Globe winner revealed she improvised lines while playing guidance counselor Ms. Perky. “[Director] Gil Junger was open to it and just let me do whatever I wanted to do,” she said.

After appearing in a string of popular romantic comedies, including She’s All That, Union continued her streak in Bring It On, Being Mary Jane and Bad Boys II.

The actress welcomed her first daughter, Kaavia, in November 2018 with husband Dwyane Wade, whom she wed in August 2014. She is also stepmother to Wade’s three children: Zaya, Zaire, and Xaviar, from previous relationships.

In March 2022, Union recreated one of her iconic 10 Things moments with Zaya in a TikTok video. In the scene, Zaya played her stepmother’s character, Bianca's BFF, Chastity.

Krumholtz, who who was already known for his role as the head elf, Bernard, in The Santa Clause, played nerdy Michael in 10 Things. He stayed on the scene via his starring role in Numb3rs as well as in appearances on The Deuce, Mom and The Good Wife. He shares daughter Pemma and son Jonas with wife Vanessa Britting.

Miller was already an established actor when he portrayed Kat and Bianca’s uptight dad, Walter Stratford, in 10 Things. He’s popped up in some of the most iconic movies over the past few decades, including Pretty Woman, both Princess Diaries films, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and Valentine’s Day. In addition to his film career, the actor has also starred on a number of TV shows: Mad About You, Boston Legal and the 2009 TV reboot of 10 Things, where he reprised his role as Mr. Stratford. He has been married to wife Eileen Conn since 1993, and they have two children together.

Mitchell played Mr. Morgan, Kat and Patrick’s English teacher. (His class was the one where she read her infamous poem out loud.) When he filmed the movie, the actor was already on the ‘90s TV show Veronica’s Closet, and he quickly scored a main role in 1999’s Galaxy Quest. He’s continued acting ever since, with appearances in TV shows like Ed and Brothers in the early 2000s. Mitchell starred on NCIS: New Orleans from 2014 to 2021 and on Fear the Walking Dead from 2018 to 2021. He shares three children with his wife, Carol Mitchell.

Keegan, who is also known for his role as single dad Wilson on 7th Heaven, played cool guy Joey in 10 Things. He continued acting while also starting his own religion, Full Circle, which is now defunct. “I think he would be super washed up,” he previously told Us of his character. He is the father of daughter Aiya.

Pratt played Kat’s BFF Mandella in the film before appearing in '90s/'00s fan favorites likeCenter Stage and Drive Me Crazy. and Masters of Sex. She has continued to act, scoring parts on popular TV shows like Mad Men, Private Practice, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Masters of Sex. and husband Kenneth Mitchell have two children: daughter Lilah and son Kallum.
