Awards season continues with the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, January 27, taking place live from the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles. However, before the show kicks off, Us Weekly has gathered everything you need to know about the big event, including how to watch, who the host is and the stars to expect!
The 2019 SAG Awards will air on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on both TBS and TNT. The red carpet will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET on sagawards.org, and streaming on TNT and TBS’ Twitter accounts.
Will & Grace star Megan Mullally is set to host the 2019 event, following in the shoes of last year’s Kristen Bell. The actress, 60, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about the hosting duties, joking she may be the oldest woman to ever host. “I think because I am married to Nick [Offerman] and my Instagram account, I have a little bit younger audience than some other 60-year-old actresses might. But maybe that's wrong,” she said. She also told Variety she will not be political, at all, during the show in order to fully focus on celebrate actors and their hard work.
Following suit of the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, A Star Is Born, BlacKkKlansman and The Favourite lead the movie nomination categories while The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Ozark, GLOW and The Handmaid’s Tale fill the nominations for TV.
In addition to the star-studded nominees, the auditorium will also be flooded with A-listers set to present the biggest awards of the night. Ken Jeong, Henry Golding, Rami Malek, Angela Bassett, Constance Wu and Angela Bassett are just a few set to take the stage. Crazy Rich Asians star Harry Chum Jr. is the ambassador of the show.
Tom Hanks will present the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award to Alan Alda. The two worked together on the 2015 drama Bridge of Spies and have remained friends ever since. Alda, 82, will be the 55th recipient of the award. “We have run into each other casually over the years at awards ceremonies and on airplanes and things like that. So, I remember him when he was just a kid,” the former M*A*S*H star said in a statement about 62-year-old Hanks.
