Staying on track. Lala Kent got candid about her sobriety in a lengthy post shared via her Instagram Stories earlier this month and discussed a specific food that helps her get through “days of weakness.”
Before divulging her sweet secret, however, the 30-year-old Vanderpump Rules star explained why she decided to get sober more than a year ago. “I hit a breaking point where I had to identify as an alcoholic or I was going to lose everything,” she wrote. “The second that I admitted I was powerless over alcohol I knew it was time to put in the work. I started reading the Big Book, going to meetings and working very hard to never go back to that drunken version of myself.”
After 30 days with no alcohol, the Bravo personality recalled wanting to feel sober “forever,” and hasn’t had a drink in 16 months. However, as Kent noted, her journey isn’t always an easy one. “I know I love to drink … a lot, I know I’m a hard worker, and I know that my life is entirely up to me,” she wrote. “However, If I decided to pick up a drink, it would be the determining factor of how my life would be.”
When one of her “days of weakness” hits, the “Love Yourself” singer revealed she tries even harder to stay on track and isolates herself from situations that could be potentially triggering. “On those days of weakness, I put in more work, and I stay my ass at home; knowing tomorrow might be a struggle as well, but I’ll have the same goal, and I will do anything in my power to stay sober – including reaching out to someone to help me carry the load,” she explained. “You know who you are. #OneDayAtATime.”
In a subsequent Instagram Story, The Row actress — who is engaged to film producer Randall Emmett — shared a look at what one of those quieter days looks like. “Also what my sobriety looks like,” she wrote over a photo of herself watching a movie and eating ice cream in bed. She also added a trio of laughing-crying emojis.
In her third and final story on the matter, the Utah native called out her ice cream specifically. “Okay. It is wroooong how good this is,” she wrote over a picture of a pint of Graeter’s black-raspberry-chocolate-chip ice cream.
The reality star opened up about her sobriety on Father’s Day last year. The holiday was particularly difficult for Kent as she remembered her father, Kent Burningham, who passed away in April 2018. “Happy Dad’s Day to all of the fathers out there, just [left] an AA meeting, to make sure I can get through the day being sober AF,” she shared at the time.
Kent previously revealed she was a reformed alcoholic in March 2019, not long after she got sober. “Five months ago, I came to the realization that I am an alcoholic,” she explained at the time. “I am now a friend of Bill [Wilson], which you will never know how much this program means to me, has given me new life,” she added of the late Alcoholics Anonymous cofounder and his famous 12 steps.
