It’s always a little bit scary when something we already love gets an upgrade. Sometimes the upgrade ends up being a total letdown! But not everything can stay the same forever, and if there’s room for improvement, we’re all about it. When it comes to this tote, we were skeptical at first, but once we saw the new version, we fell even more in love. Who knew that was even possible?
Many of us may recognize the Day Square Tote from Everlane. Can’t figure out why? Let’s take it all the way back to September 2017, when Duchess Meghan (who had yet to gain her title) and Prince Harry made their official debut as a couple at the Invictus Games in Toronto. Of course, we remember the excitement of seeing them together, but one thing we’ll never forget was that she accessorized with her very own Day Tote!

The upgraded version of this bag caught shoppers’ attention immediately. One called it “the perfect size for an everyday bag,” while another actually listed out the things they keep inside of it, including their laptop, journal and an extra pair of shoes! One happy shopper commented on the quality of the leather, celebrating how it’s not too rigid but still manages to hold its shape. Many raved about how it goes with absolutely everything, and even one shopper on the petite side loved how it wasn’t too bulky even on a shorter stature!
Duchess Meghan’s Day Tote had more of a rectangular shape, but this new version takes on a sleek, square silhouette. Don’t worry, though, because Everlane promises that it still has that “same all-day hustle” we’re looking for, just in a “streamlined” shape. It’s a bit smaller, but ultimately even chicer!
The Day Square Tote was made in Prato, Italy, and is made of 100% premium Italian leather. The leather has a matte look and feel, so it’s smooth and contemporarily trendy. We especially love how the top handles share the same color and material as the bag, with just a bit of stylish topstitching to separate them. There is also a subtle topstitching detail on one side of the bag, forming a smaller square shape as if the bag were framing it. These details result in a clean and structured tote with no accents to distract from the other pieces we’re wearing.

The handles have a 9 ½-inch drop, making them short enough to wear on the crook of our arm or hold in our hands, but also long enough to wear over our shoulder if we want to! So much versatility without having to attach, detach or adjust anything.
This newly-upgraded tote is currently available in three colors. Cognac is a true brown, made to match perfectly with shoes and belts of similar hues. A brown shade such as this is open to so many other color pairings, too. It looks fabulous with navy or even black. It also would look super sophisticated with a cream or white. Since it’s an earthy tone, we’re definitely bringing out some greens and blues, too — and pinks for good measure! Not earthy, but forever fabulous.
Black is also an option and a very good one, at that. It’s a deep black as opposed to a dark grey or “washed black” (also known as dark grey). A black tote is obviously an essential and a leather black tote is the epitome of all essentials. This is our quick-grab, go-to bag since we know it won’t interfere with any outfit, just complement and improve it!
The last color is Saddle which is also a brown but more in the tan range compared to Cognac. This shade is a true neutral, matching with black and brown alike and any color in between the two. Have fun and experiment! We always encourage everyone to explore their own personal style, and this tote is leaving maximum room for exploration!
We think it’s more than safe to say that this upgrade was a royal one. Just like how Duchess Meghan became a duchess, her bag became even more duchess-worthy when Everlane came out with this new version. We’re not going to pass up this royal opportunity, especially when it’s such a deal with the traditional retail price being over twice as much at $370! Wow, right?
