We’ve tried every method possible when it comes to applying our makeup. We’ve tried spreading with our hands, we’ve tried swirling with brushes, we’ve tried patting with puffs and we’ve tried stippling with quickly-disposed-of sponges and streaky silicone applicators. It can be frustrating since different products require different application techniques. Or so we thought. When the most famous makeup artist in the world reveals his universal technique for flawless makeup application, we listen.

If we were going to keep just one beauty tool in our makeup bag, it’s would be the award-winning beautyblender. It’s truly a Renaissance tool, able to apply so many different types of makeup to our face (or body). We know that this sponge is truly the best of the best, not only because it delivers beautiful application, but because Mario Dedivanovic said so. The Makeup by Mario artist is a highly-respected leader in the beauty industry, known for working with Kim Kardashian and her sisters, as well as celebrities like Ariana Grande, Megan Fox, Gabrielle Union and Priyanka Chopra — to name a few.

Makeup lovers can’t get enough of this unique applicator. One said their makeup actually looks “a million times better” when they use it, noting that it’s perfect for achieving that dewy glow everyone is after. Another shopper agreed, saying it’s “so much better than using a makeup brush.” One even said that by using it themselves, it looked like a professional actually airbrushed their face! Don’t think that this beautyblender is replaceable with wannabe brands. One shopper said they always used to go for the “off-brand, cheaper versions,” but they finally decided to try the beautyblender and will now “never go back!”

When Dedivanovic revealed his makeup collection to Coveteur, he explained that a beautyblender is a product he “can’t live without,” noting that he uses it no matter what look he’s creating. Natural, everyday makeup? beautyblender. Smoky, night-out makeup? beautyblender. He notes that he uses multiple per client, one for foundation, one for concealer, one for contour and one for highlight. He also likes to use the applicator with a luminous spray, bouncing it on clients’ cheeks for “an expensive, wet glow.”

The beautyblender is egg-shaped with a soft, pointy tip. The narrow end is meant to reach creases on the sides of the nose and around the eye and mouth. The larger end is meant for the cheeks, forehead and chin. Using this blender may leave our complexion looking “seemingly flawless” and evenly toned, with no streaking or patchiness to be seen!

The beautyblender has a silky texture, and while it is a sponge, it doesn’t soak up all of our makeup before it even makes it onto our face. The brand claims that products will sink into our skin, not the sponge, so we can help minimize product waste, making our makeup last longer.

A great aspect of the beautyblender, as opposed to other sponges, is that it’s washable and durable. We can hand-wash it and use it over and over again, which may minimize the number of bacteria that comes in contact with our skin. That means clearer, healthier skin!

We can either use the beautyblender wet or dry, but it’s recommended that we wet it. We can just use regular water, or we can use a facial spray or primer if we feel that works best. Squeeze out any excess liquid and apply makeup to it, bouncing it across the face. Bouncing, not dragging! This technique is very important if we want to see the best results possible.

We can use our beautyblender when applying pretty much any type of makeup, with the exception of maybe mascara, though to be fair, we’ve yet to try. It may help to blend our foundation, BB cream or CC cream, cream blush, bronzer, highlighter or powder! Just try to keep blush and bronzer on a different part of the sponge than our base makeup. Or work like Dedivanovic and use multiple!

We should replace our beautyblender every three months so we can see the maximum benefits, as well as keep things clean and clear. Way longer than those packs of little disposable white sponges we see at the drugstore!

With this hot pink (also available in black) sponge, people may actually think that our makeup truly is “By Mario,” but all it takes is a couple of minutes in front of our own mirror with our beautyblender! No professional glam squad necessary.
