Halsey’s Rolling Stone cover is the magazine cover we didn’t know we needed.
For the publication’s The Hot Issue, the “Without Me” singer posed in a white tank with her arms behind her head as she shows off her tatted-up arms and armpit hair. And that little bit of body hair has caused quite a bit of celebration, even amongst celebrities.
When the 24-year-old performer posted the image to her Instagram on Thursday, June 20, a couple A-listers commented in full support. “There’s so much yes about this picture idk where to start,” wrote Demi Lovato.
Maggie Rodgers also chimed in, writing, “here for this armpit hair.”
Zara Larsson also took to social media to praise the cover star for her underarm fuzz. “I loooove the fact that they didn’t edit the armpits like most magazines would do,” she wrote in a Tweet. “Women are not little babies who don’t have body hair.”
Every now and again, an influential woman will deliver this much-needed reminder that women aren’t born hairless below the neck and that’s nothing to be ashamed of.
Back in October 2018, Amandla Stenberg walked the red carpet for the European premiere of her movie The Hate U Give in a plunging Valentino gown, showing off underarm hair. She reposted a picture to Instagram captioning it, “#drama #armpit.”
But in real OG status, who could forget Julia Robert’s underarm hair at the 1999 red carpet for Notting Hill. Dazzling in a gorgeous red-pink sequined gown from Vivienne Tam, the star lifted her arms to wave at fans and press, revealing a bit of hair. When talking with Busy Philipps on her talk show Busy Tonight, she said it wasn’t necessarily a statement she was trying to make.
“I think I just hadn’t really calculated my sleeve length and the waving and how those two things would go together and reveal personal things about me,” she told the host. “So it wasn’t so much a statement as it’s just part of the statement I make as a human on the planet for myself.”
