About

Elton John is known for his lasting impact on the music industry and showmanship thanks to albums Elton John (1970), Honky Château (1972), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) and hit singles “Your Song,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” He collaborated with Tim Rice on Disney’s The Lion King (1994), producing hit songs “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.” Throughout his career, John has won six Grammy Awards, two Oscars, two Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award.

The singer’s partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is one of the most successful in history, and both were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992. John battled drug and alcohol addiction in his early career but has been sober since 1990. He announced his official retirement from touring in 2018, planning to embark on a three-year farewell tour, which was put on hold due to the COVID pandemic in 2020. John performed his final concert in 2023 in Sweden.

John has been with David Furnish since 1993, and the two welcomed sons Zachary and Elijah born via surrogacy in 2010 and 2013, respectively. The couple tied the knot in 2014 after same-sex marriage became legal in England.
