Kate Hudson, Jim Carrey Do Their Best Matthew McConaughey Impressions: Who Did It Better?

Ready, set, drawl! If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Matthew McConaughey is the most admired man in Hollywood. Everyone from Matt Damon to Breckin Meyer to Justin Long to McConaughey's Magic Mike costar Channing Tatum has an impression of the Interstellar actor ready to go at a moment's notice. In fact, just last week, Kate Hudson and Jim Carrey broke out their best McConaugheys for an awards show and Saturday Night Live, respectively. The question is: Who did it better?

Hudson, 35 — who costarred with the Oscar winner in the romcoms How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool's Gold — summoned a Texas drawl at the Oct. 21 American Cinematheque Awards, where McConaughey, 44, was being honored for his 21-year career. Taking the stage in a slinky gold gown, the Wish I Was Here actress recalled a time when she and the married father-of-three were training to get certified in scuba diving for one of their movies.

Hudson was feeling a little down that day, but McConaughey cheered her right up. "Out of the water pops Matthew — no shirt, full gear, spits out the regulator," she told the crowd. "And he's like, 'Come ooooon, Hudson, let's go, baby, uh-huh.'"

McConaughey himself was spotted laughing at the impression from his seat in the audience. He also praised it at the Hollywood premiere of Interstellar on Oct. 26. "It was pretty good!" the Dallas Buyers Club actor told reporters at TCL Chinese Theatre. "That was fun. I haven't talked to Kate in a while, but I remember exactly the night she was talking about."

Carrey, meanwhile, busted out his McConaughey impression for the Oct. 25 episode of Saturday Night Live. The Dumb and Dumber To star, 52, spoofed the actor's Lincoln car commercials in a series of three short videos for the comedy sketch show. In each one, he channels McConaughey's True Detective character Rust Cohle, affecting a gravelly baritone and musing over the meaning of life while rubbing his fingers together.

"Sometimes you gotta go back to actually move forward. And I don't mean go back and reminisce or chase ghosts," Carrey says in one of the clips. "I mean, take a big step back, like go from winning an Oscar to doing a car commercial."
