Three months after giving birth to her son, David, Jennifer Hudson is going back to work.
The Oscar-winning actress, 28, who garnered praise for her breakout role in 2006's Dreamgirls, will play the wife of South Africa's first black president, Nelson Mandela, in the drama Winnie.
According to Variety, the film will go into production May 30 in locations including Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.

Filming will also take place on Robben Island, where anti-apartheid activist Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison after being convicted in South African courts of sabotage and other crimes.
"I was compelled and moved when I read the script," Hudson told Variety. "Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I'm honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told."

Hudson, who has appeared in Sex and the City and The Secret Life of Bees, is also expected to sing the film's theme song.
Can you believe the price tag on these wardrobe pieces from SATC2?
As she furthers her film career, Hudson says she's seeing traits of a performer in her little boy, whom she welcomed with fiance David Otunga, last August.
"He seems like he's very interested in music already," Hudson told Usmagazine.com in September. "The other night he was having a fit and screaming and sometimes when I play music, he will just calm down. I was exactly the same way."
