George Clooney Bio Bio

Born in Lexington, Kentucky to beauty pageant contestant mother Nina and broadcast journalist father Nick, Clooney grew up playing on his father's news sets, appearing on The Nick Clooney show at age five where he proved to be a natural on screen. While Clooney's dramatic talents were apparent, his true passion could be seen on the baseball diamond. This Hollywood honcho even tried out for the Cincinnati Reds. As a result of his Reds rejection, Clooney embarked on a career in acting with the help of his actor cousin Miguel Ferrer. In Clooney's early days, a pal even let this soon-to-be millionaire sleep in his closet while auditioning in Los Angeles. Although acting genes ran through Clooney's blood—with Ferrer as cousin and actress/singer Rosemary Clooney as aunt—it took him a string of commercials and bit parts on shows like The Golden Girls before hitting the jackpot. In 1994, Clooney landed the role as Dr. Ross on the NBC sitcom ER where he made women across America's hearts pound every Thursday night. Since this groundbreaking role, Clooney has starred in numerous hit films, and has become one of the most admired actors of our time.

Love

As one of Hollywood's leading men, Clooney has remained a swooned-over-bachelor except for a short marriage with ex-wife Talia Balsam from 1989-1992. Since then, Clooney has lived up to his reputation as being a ladies man, dating Celine Balitran, Lisa Snowdon, Maria Bertrand, Krista Allen, and, since 2007, has been seen around Tinseltown getting cozy with Sarah Larson. However, salt-n-pepper haired Clooney will forever be a bachelor, stating obstinately that he will never get remarried and that he has no desire to have children of his own.

Career

Since Clooney's run on Emmy Award winning ER, he has become one of the least criticized actors in Hollywood—a nearly impossible feat— due to his skillful drama and handsome looks, a perfect recipe for stardom and success. He has won two Golden Globe Awards, a 2001 Golden Globe for Best Actor for his work in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and a 2006 Golden Globe for Best Actor for his work in the controversial Syriana for which he also earned a 2006 Best Actor Academy Award. Although Clooney lights up the silver screen with his on-screen portrayals, he has also experienced success behind-the-scenes and was nominated for 2006 Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Director for Good Night, and Good Luck. More recently, Clooney was nominated for a 2008 Best Actor Golden Globe for his lead role as Michael Clayton in the hit film Michael Claynton. In April 2008, Clooney's football comedy Leatherheads hit the silver screen. Although it was generally well received, competitor 21 - starring Kate Bosworth - was more successful at the box office.
