Born in Louisiana in 1969, Tyler Perry is an actor, filmmaker, playwright and comedian. His career took off after he cowrote the hit show Diary of a Mad Black Woman — creating and portraying his iconic Madea character — alongside director Darren Grant.
He went on to star in hit movies including Don’t Look Up, Gone Girl, Daddy’s Little Girls, Good Deeds and more. He appeared on Star Trek and even had his own show — Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. The beloved sitcom premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons before concluding in 2012.
In 2020, The actor was awarded the Governor’s Award at the Emmys. The same year, he also was featured in Time’s 100 Most Influential People and won a People’s Choice Award for People’s Champion.
In 2009, he and model Gelila Bekele started dating and they welcomed Aman Tyler Perry in 2014. The twosome split in 2020.
