Ariana Biermann isn’t the only member of the Zolciak-Biermann family who struggles with insecurities. On the Sunday, February 17, episode of Don’t Be Tardy, mom Kim Zolciak shared a candid confession about her own past with overcoming body image issues.
As Ariana, 17, tried on a series of potential prom dresses, she said that her “ideal” choice was “something that shows off more of my waist because that’s about the only thing I have on me.” At one point, the teen said she is shaped “like a teapot,” nothing that she is a size 8. She then pointed toward her mom and said, “Your stomach is like a size 4!”
In response, Kim, 40, admitted, “I paid for a stomach!” She then tried to comfort Ariana, telling her, “You’re beautiful. I love you. You’re beautiful the way you are. You have to accept yourself.”
Still, Ariana continued to feel uncomfortable. “I am 5-foot-2. This is for someone who is, like, 5-foot-9,” she lamented to her mom and sister Brielle Biermann about one dress option that didn’t fit quite right.
“You’ve been skinny your whole life. You don’t get it,” Ariana said to Kim. “I don’t look skinny in that dress.”
In another attempt to console Ariana, the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum stepped into the fitting room herself and tried on the same exact dress, which didn’t fit her either.
“You’re sadly mistaken,” she said. “My tits are five times your size. I cannot zip it. So you think you’re so fat?”
Later in a confessional, Kim opened up further about how Ariana has been feeling “self-conscious” about her appearance as of late.
“Nothing looks right, nothing fits right,” she said. “Oh, my God. It breaks my heart. But this is my time to encourage her, you know. ‘Believe in yourself. You’re beautiful. Embrace it.’”
Ultimately, the Bravo personality’s words of wisdom helped. “I feel better about myself now that my mom can’t fit into [the dress] because I feel like she’s so tiny and if she can’t fit into it, then maybe we’re not so different in size,” said Ariana, who ended up choosing a strapless floral dress.
The episode aired days after Kim said she is “not open” to her daughters having plastic surgery, even though she and Brielle, 21, have both received lip injections in the past.
“I tell them … ‘When you’re done having kids and all that good stuff, worry about that stuff later on down the road, if that’s what you want to do,’” she told Entertainment Tonight on Friday, February 15.
Kim and her husband, Kroy Biermann, share six children: Brielle, Ariana, KJ, 7, Kash, 6, and twins Kaia and Kane, 5. The former NFL player, 33, adopted Brielle and Ariana, whom Kim had from a previous relationship, after the couple’s 2011 wedding.
