Why Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Named Their Newborn Daughter Chicago

Shoutout to Chi-Town! Kim Kardashian and Kanye West chose to name their newborn daughter Chicago in honor of the city where the rapper was raised, a source tells Us Weekly.

Chicago was born via surrogate at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday, January 15. She was delivered without complications by the Kardashian family’s trusted doctor Paul Crane, weighing in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. A source told Us that Kardashian, 37, was the first person to have skin-to-skin contact with her baby girl, followed by West, 40. The couple, who wed in 2014, are also the parents of daughter North, 4, and son Saint, 2.

“Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star announced in a post on her app on Tuesday, January 16. “We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.”

Kardashian revealed Chicago’s name on her website on Friday, January 19. She later tweeted that the baby’s nickname will be Chi, pronounced “shy.” Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson in a few months, gleefully tweeted her reaction to her new niece’s moniker: “I LOOOOOOOOOOVE her name … hey Chi (shy).”
