Somehow our ticket to George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s September 2014 wedding at the Aman Canal Grande hotel in Venice got lost in the mail. But the A-lister’s former costar and pal Ellen Barkin managed to score an invite. On the March 18 episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, the Happyish star, 60, was grilled about her experience during the romantic weekend.
WWHL host Andy Cohen and fellow guest Anderson Cooper took turns asking Barkin questions about the A-list affair, including “Who got the most drunk?” and “Did any famous people drunkenly hook up?”
In fact, a lot of their inquiries were booze-related. “I can only speak for myself and that would be a big yes,” she replied when asked if the majority of guests were drunk throughout the festivities. And when pressed about the food, Barkin answered, “I would say spectacular, [but] I didn’t eat. It got in the way of my drinking. You know what, I’m not lying, I have no f—king idea. I didn’t eat a thing all weekend.”
As to whether any celebs hooked up at the highly publicized event, Barkin first replied, “Not that I’m aware of,” before asking, “What do you mean ‘hook up’?”
“Fool around that night,” host Cohen explained.
“Possibly,” she said, revising her answer with a coy smile.
Barkin, who was briefly engaged to Alamuddin’s colleague Ben Emmerson, also vaguely alluded to meeting a man at the event.
“I only remember one person at my table, a gentleman,” she said, grinning and taking a drink.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Barkin and Emmerson met at Clooney’s wedding and got engaged over New Year’s. She later called things off and returned the ring. She realized “she didn’t know him well enough,” an insider told Us at the time. “She got swept up in the moment.”
Barkin and Clooney, 53, became close friends on the set of 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen. The two-time Golden Globe nominee said she wasn’t surprised that the former bachelor settled down.
“I always felt he would,” she said. “I felt he was just waiting till he felt like he wanted to.”
As for the Oscar winner’s new wife?
“She takes great care of him and all his friends,” Barkin dished of Alamuddin, 37.
