Emma Roberts and her longtime partner, Cody John, are officially married.
Roberts, 35, and John, 36, said “I do” in an intimate ceremony held in Idaho on Saturday, July 24, according to photos obtained by online gossip site DeuxMoi. While John looked dapper in a burgundy suit, the blushing bride stunned in a one-shouldered ivory Monique Lhuillier gown featuring a long train surrounded by white roses.
Emma’s famous aunt Julia Roberts was also pictured in Idaho with her husband, Danny Moder, ahead of the pair’s nuptials. Neither Julia, 58, nor the newlyweds have publicly addressed their ceremony or revealed any details at the time of publication.
John popped the question to the American Horror Story star almost exactly two years before their big day.
“Putting this here before my mom tells everyone ❤️,” Emma wrote via Instagram in July 2024, jokingly referring to her mom Kelly Cunningham’s history of divulging secrets of her daughter’s personal life via social media.
Cunningham, who shares Emma with ex Eric Roberts, spilled the beans in 2020 that Emma was pregnant with son Rhodes before the actress publicly shared the news herself.
“I was keeping my pregnancy pretty low-key but unfortunately my mother has Instagram. Which, mothers and Instagram, it’s a bad combination,” Emma recalled on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in October 2020. “It started slow with a Google alert on me. … It led to interacting with my fans and just thanking them for all their pregnancy wishes.”
She added, “It was a disaster, and I found it all out on a plane, so I couldn’t get to her. I couldn’t call her or attack her. We kind of laughed. We kind of got into a fight. I blocked her at one point. … It’s a good story to tell the baby.”
Emma shares her son, now 5, with ex Garrett Hedlund, from whom the Aquamarine actress split in early 2022. As Emma became a single mom, it was Cunningham who shared the first photo of Rhodes’ face.
“When your mom posts your sons [sic] face without asking,” Emma quipped via Instagram in February 2023 about her then-2-year-old son. “But, you love them both so whatever.”
Reposting Emma’s message to her Instagram Stories, Cunningham wrote, “The battle continues!!🤣🤣 I love you Q!! Touche ♥️.”
Amid raising her son, Emma started privately dating John in 2022.
“I never want to talk about relationships I’m in or that are ending or have ended. It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience,” she told Cosmopolitan in May 2019 of keeping her love life low-key. “Growing up is hard. Sometimes it makes me sad that I can’t have a private moment. Because of Twitter and Instagram, there’s a whole other element where everybody can comment on what you’re doing, and no one knows the real story.”
Prior to John, Emma had dated Hedlund, 41, and AHS costar Evan Peters, respectively. After her past relationships, Emma issued a self-imposed moratorium on dating other actors.
“One day the veil was lifted and I didn’t want to date actors anymore,” she quipped to Flaunt magazine in 2024. “It’s hard, I think, for two actors to be together. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen it done successfully. Also, the actors I’ve been with border on method actors, and that is something that I think is extremely difficult to be in a relationship with — at least for me, especially the characters that they were playing.”
