Mischa Barton has filed a lawsuit against her “greedy stage mother,” the O.C. alum’s lawyer Alex Weingarten confirmed to Us Weekly via a statement on Tuesday, April 7.
According to the statement, Barton claims that her mother, Nuala Barton, stole all of her earnings.
"This action arises from the tragic tale of a greedy stage mother posing as a talent manager who, instead of acting in the best interest of her daughter/client, schemed to defraud her unsuspecting victim,” Weingarten told Us in a statement. "From the outset, Nuala positioned herself to siphon her daughter’s hard-earned money by purportedly acting as her talent manager – a role for which Nuala had absolutely no experience or training.”
According to TMZ, Mischa claims that Nuala even forced her out of her own Beverly Hills home and used her name to create a handbag line and open a boutique in London without giving Mischa any of the profits.
Mischa has been acting since she was 8 years old and has starred in films including Notting Hill and The Sixth Sense.
The documents also claim that neither Mischa’s mother or father Paul Barton have held their own jobs in over a decade.
