Kanye West and Irina Shayk’s relationship may come as a surprise to some, but as it turns out, their romance wasn’t so random after all. Three years before Kim Kardashian was featured in then-love West’s music video for “Bound 2,” Shayk was his video girl for his 2010 track “Power.” The duo teamed up again in 2012 when the Grammy winner enlisted the model to walk in one of his fashion shows. “When I got a request to participate in the show, I was very thrilled and agreed immediately. I consider Kanye West to be one of those rare people that bring new ideas into the world,” Shayk gushed to Popsugar at the time. “He brought art into music, and now he is releasing his passion for fashion and I think that it's absolutely amazing! Several months later, the musician referenced Shayk in his track ”Christian Dior Flow,” released in October 2010. “Alessandra Ambrosio, Anja Rubik and Olga / Kurylenko, tell her I’m very single,” the lyrics read. “Abbey Lee too, I’m a freak, boo / I’m wilding, I’m on a thousand / I wanna see Irina Shayk next to Doutzen.”

Shayk walked in West’s Fall 2012 show in Paris years before they were romantically linked.

“I have [a] passion for shoes. When I saw Kanye's white button shoes from his last collection I fell in love with them, they are absolutely amazing. Not to mention, extremely comfortable and very special looking,” she told Popsugar at the time. “Backstage was absolutely crazy! Plenty of amazing clothes and jewelry, sexy shoes and great people. The atmosphere was really cool because every model was so excited to do that show and the team was very professional and friendly.”

After a whirlwind few weeks of romance, a source exclusively told Us, "Kanye and Irina aren't speaking quite as much anymore." Though the supermodel wanted "to remain friends and keep communication open," she started "pulling back a bit" to focus more energy on her work. "Irina does like Kanye, but isn't ready for so many public appearances together all over the [world] for the coming months," the insider added.
