Kate Hudson’s Dating History: A Timeline of Her Famous Romances 

Danny Fujikawa isn’t the first musician to catch Kate Hudson's attention. Hudson, who is the mother of sons Ryder and Bingham from previous relationships, was first linked to Fujikawa in December 2016. The actress revealed on the couple’s first anniversary that they were friends for 15 years before they had a romantic relationship. “The first time I met Danny I was 23 and enormously pregnant with Ryder. His step sisters are my best friends @sarafoster @erinfoster and so it goes we have been in the same circle for over a decade!” she wrote via Instagram. “A year ago today Danny took me on a hike and what I thought was just a hike with a family friend turned very quickly into an unexpected first date. No moves were made on this first date. In fact, it took months for him to make a first move! And as a kiss on this bridge would have been nice, the kiss a year later was so much sweeter.” She continued: “So on our 15th year of knowing each other we were able to open our hearts to each other to feel so much pure love and it’s been truly incredible.! ❤️Happy first date anniversary baby. #LoveThisMan 🙏 #WhatAYear.” [jwplayer VgciSd4a-zhNYySv2] In October 2018, Hudson gave birth to the pair’s first child together, a daughter named Rani Rose. “She’s here 💕,” the Something Borrowed star wrote on Instagram at the time. “We have decided to name our daughter Rani (pronounced Ronnie) after her grandfather, Ron Fujikawa. Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor. Everyone is doing well and happy as can be. Our family thanks you for all the love and blessings that have been sent our way and we send ours right back.” An insider told Us Weekly at the time that Hudson “had the baby itch and wanted a girl more than anything.” “She just knew that she wanted a baby with him and hoped and prayed that it would happen,” the insider said. “For it to be a girl is just the icing on the cake. Danny is so good with kids and has been great with her boys.” Hudson previously welcomed son Ryder with ex-husband Chris Robinson and son Bingham with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy. In April 2021, five months before Hudson got engaged to Fujikawa, a source gave Us insight into her "great dynamic" with her children's fathers. Chris Robinson

Hudson wed the Black Crowes frontman in 2000 after less than a year of dating. She thanked Robinson in her Golden Globes acceptance speech for Almost Famous in 2001. "My husband, Chris Robinson. You inspire me every day,” Hudson said at the time. The pair welcomed son Ryder in January 2004, before calling it quits after six years of marriage in 2006. Their divorce was finalized in October 2007.

Owen Wilson

The actress moved on from Robinson with Wilson after meeting set of the 2006 film You, Me & Dupree. "This is not just a fling. Kate is crazy about him. Owen gives her so much attention, and she loves it," a source told Us Weekly at the time. The duo broke up in 2007 and briefly rekindled their relationship in 2008 before calling it quits for good.

Dax Shepard

Hudson and the Parenthood actor briefly dated in 2007 after her split from Wilson. 

The exes addressed their relationship for the first time in November 2019 when Hudson appeared on Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast.

“I felt very ‘less than’ around you quite often,” Shepard admitted about their whirlwind romance. “I think I was just in the point where I was not gonna get hired for movies anymore — I had a bunch that didn’t work — and I’m like, ‘I don’t f—king know what’s next’ and you were at that time making the most you ever made and having the most opportunity. … I’m following this person around as they do things I wish I were doing. It was a rough period anyways and then I felt all kinds of inadequacy in that position.”

Hudson, for her part, said that their relationship “was a lot fast.” 

“Honestly, I wasn’t giving Dax what he needed and I was making choices that were not relationship-focused,” the actress said. “I was not ready for what Dax — It was so much fun, it got hot fast … and I wasn’t prepared.”

Heath Ledger

The Pretty Happy author reportedly dated Ledger in 2007. While the relationship between Hudson and Ledger was never confirmed, she revealed during a 2014 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that her favorite on-screen kiss was with the late actor in the 2002 film The Four Feathers. "I would say my favorite one was Heath,” Hudson said at the time. "That was pretty excellent … He was just so beautiful and sweet and gentle.”

Hudson started dating the Muse rocker in spring 2010. Us broke the news the pair were expecting a child together in January 2011. A few months later, they announced their engagement in April 2011, and and welcomed son Bingham in July 2011. The duo announced they called off their engagement in December 2014. “We chose to move on because we had different visions of how we wanted to live our lives,” she told Allure magazine in October 2015. “That doesn’t mean, though, that we can’t rebuild something that would be the best thing for the kids.”

Us exclusively revealed that Hudson and the youngest Jonas Brother hooked up in September 2015. The “Jealous” singer spoke about his fling with the actress to Complex magazine in January 2016. "Kate’s incredible. We had an unbelievable connection as two humans who just admire things about each other, and see something in each other that’s beautiful," he told the mag at the time.
