Everything Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves Have Said About Their Relationship

Fans have been shipping Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock since they first starred together in the 1994 blockbuster Speed — but, unfortunately, these Hollywood stars are just friends. However, Bullock offered the internet a little bit of hope in November 2021 when she told Esquire that she thinks they could have made it work if they were more than costars. “Nope,” she told the magazine when asked if they ever dated. “But who knows.” The pair, who reunited on screen in 2006 for The Lake House, have long denied that they ever hooked up off screen — but they may have wished they had. “Keanu's a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he's ever dated,” the Miss Congeniality star gushed to Esquire. “I don't think there's anyone who has something horrible to say about him. And the more I jibber-jabbered on, the quieter he would get. And I thought, 'I don’t understand what’s happening!​​ He’s looking at me with eyes of confusion. He’s quiet. Did I say something to offend him?'” she said. Turns out, the John Wick star was just a very intense listener — something Bullock wasn’t all that used to at the time. Following their deep conversations, she told Esquire that Reeves “would arrive with a note or a little package, saying, ‘I thought about what you said.’ … How many people do you know like that?” While they could have made an impressive couple, both have found love with others. Following her 2010 divorce from Jesse James, the Virginia native moved on with photographer Bryan Randall in 2015. Just a Crush

Like everyone else, Bullock had a thing for the action star. “It was hard for me to really be serious [on set],” she admitted during a December 2018 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. “He would look at me and I'd be like …,” she said before trailing off in giggles.

When DeGeneres asked why they didn’t date, Bullock joked, "There's just something about me that I guess he didn't like.”

If He Only Knew

Unfortunately, Reeves was unaware of Bullock’s feelings for him. “She obviously didn't know I had a crush on her either,” he told DeGeneres in May 2019. “It was nice to go to work, she's such a wonderful person and a wonderful actress."

Friends With Benefits

While filming Speed, Bullock revealed to Reeves that she had never had champagne and truffles. In the moment, it seemed like an inconsequential conversation, but the producer told Esquire in November 2021 that days after they initially spoke, the Point Break actor showed up at her house on his motorcycle with the items in question.

“He’s a listener,” she explained. “And it drives. People. Crazy.”

Keeping Hope Alive?

If Bullock had dated Reeves, she thinks there’s a possibility they could have been endgame.

“Maybe we could have survived. I don't know,” the Gravity star told Esquire in November 2021. “But we didn't have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for dinner and try to work together.”

She continued, “And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not."

Good Chemistry

While they may never date IRL, Reeves is hopeful that they’ll be able to team up again on film. "She's such a wonderful artist and person. And, you know, I think we have good chemistry," he told Esquire in November 2021. "And it would be really exciting and interesting to get the chance to perform with her again."

Bullock also believes they have another collaboration in them — and even pitched a possible idea for their next project: a road trip comedy. “It’ll be the bookend of Speed!” the Practical Magic actress told the magazine. “We’ll just be driving really slowly. Pissing the world off. There’s our movie.”
