Is it finally time?! Frank Ocean launched a cryptic Apple Music livestream on his website Monday, August 1, ahead of what fans hope will be the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album, Boys Don’t Cry.
In the black-and-white video, a shadowy figure monotonously works behind a pair of workbenches and paces around an empty warehouse. Various sounds, including construction noises and those from an array of instruments, occasionally play in the background.
The livestream is the first update made to the 28-year-old Grammy Award winner’s website since last month when he shared an enigmatic library due date card with various dates, including for July 2016. After that post was uploaded, many of the “Thinkin Bout You” singer’s fans (apparently incorrectly) interpreted the July date as a time frame for the album’s release.
Ocean first teased fans in April 2015, when he announced that Boys Don’t Cry — the follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2012 debut album, Channel Orange — would be released in July, but that date also came and went without any sign of a new LP.
Immediately after the livestream was posted early Monday morning, the R&B singer’s anxious fanbase took to social media to express their frustration over the album’s delayed release.
“Frank Ocean got ppl losing sleep and watching a live stream of an empty room, the desperation is really real,” one user wrote on Twitter.
Another fan shared a Vine video of a young boy crying, which he captioned, “Me watching this livestream of a motionless room knowing nothing is gonna happen cause frank ocean is a liar.”
