The Thursday, Aug. 6, episode of Teen Mom 2 was a lesson in how jealousy can ruin a relationship. It’s no secret that Kailyn Lowry and her husband, Javi Marroquin, have been fighting all season long, but this week was really the last straw for Kailyn, who didn’t even want to come home by the end of the episode.
Combine that saga with Jenelle Evans’ continued custody struggles with her mom, Barbara Evans, Chelsea Houska’s custody issues with her ex, Adam Lind, and Leah Messer’s blowout fights with her ex-husband, Corey Simms, meant Thursday got even more dramatic than usual.
Here’s what happened:
Chelsea Houska
It’s pretty clear to anyone who watches Teen Mom 2 (or has accessed Adam Lind’s public jail record) that Chelsea Houska’s ex is trouble. This week he took their daughter, Aubree, roller skating and while he was there asked Aubree to call his other ex Taylor and beg her to see his other daughter, Paislee.
Aubree, and her adorable little voice, left a sad (and manipulating) voicemail on Taylor’s phone asking to see baby Paislee. Naturally, Taylor gave Chelsea the heads up before Taylor went to her custody hearing with Adam.
It turned out that Adam wasn’t into telling the truth when it came time for him to take the stand.
“One of the things he said was that you were okay with him taking Aubree without his parents’ permission,” Taylor told Chelsea. “He also denied Aubree calling me, and I have a voicemail of it.”
“You would think that judges can see through that, but what if they don’t?” Chelsea replied. “God, that makes me nervous.”
Leah Messer
Things are getting ugly in West Virginia between Leah and her ex-husband, Corey Simms. After Leah’s lawyer urged her not to let Corey “bully” her into changing their custody agreement, Leah broke the news to Corey that she wanted to keep the twins’ schedule the same. Obviously that didn’t go over well with the concerned dad, who immediately demanded to know if their daughter Ali had been to physical therapy.
Leah revealed that she hadn’t been to her appointment because their other daughter, Aleeah, was sick and had to go to the doctor.
“Get your s—t together and do what you’re supposed to do and there will be no issues. You’re a fake-ass mom right now,” Corey shouted into the phone.
“Shut up!” Leah screamed as her three kids looked on. “Stop running your mouth. That’s all you do.”
“Are the kids around while you’re cussing like that?” Corey demanded.
“Yeah they’re around. They hear you cussing too,” Leah shot back.
“Yeah ‘cause they tell me you say the F-word all the time. How’s that for a mother?” Corey replied.
After they ended the call a frustrated Corey talked with his wife, Miranda, about the squabble.
“There’s no talking to her,” he declared. “There should never be an excuse as to why she canceled therapy. Why are the kids telling me that Mommy and Jeremy fight so bad that they get scared and hide in the laundry room? That’s the stuff that’s pissing me off. I believe my kids more than I’ll ever believe her.”
Corey then vowed not to give up on his fight with Leah, announcing that he’d be be taking her back to court for custody of their twins.
Jenelle Evans
After weeks of waiting, Jenelle’s mom, Barbara, who has raised her grandson Jace since his birth, finally received the custody papers her estranged daughter filed to get back custody of Jace this week, and it wasn’t pretty.
Barbara was so hurt by the documents that she tried to keep Jenelle out of a meeting with Jace’s teacher.
“I sent her my schedule, and she still scheduled it when I have school,” Jenelle lamented to her friend. “I want to work together as a team. She’s trying to make it impossible for me to be involved.”
Later, on the phone, Barbara told Jenelle she couldn’t see Jace since they were heading to court and she didn’t want to “upset” him, causing Jenelle to scream, “I want to know how come some weekends it’s okay for me to have him and then the second you get pissed off you hold him from me.”
When Babs tried to explain herself, Jenelle went off on her, declaring, “You know what? F—k you dude. I’m so done with you. And when I get custody of Jace back, you will not see him for as long as you f—king held him from me for. I’m done with this. Go ahead get a lawyer because guess what, sweetheart? I’m going to test clean if you say I’m doing drugs. I’m going to school.”
Surprisingly, Barbara still let Jenelle call in to the school meeting, but Jenelle didn’t like what she heard on the call. Jace’s teacher seemed to indicate that staying with his grandmother was what was best for the tot, and Jenelle didn’t like that one bit.
The mother of two complained about the conversation to her fiancé, Nathan Griffith, later, but for once, he didn’t seem to be on her side either. When Jenelle declared that if she got custody of Jace she’d only let Barbara see him one weekend a month, Nathan replied, “Maybe every other weekend. He’s been living there for the last four or five years, and you can’t just rip a child out of a home without slowly transitioning him into another home,” he said, adding, “Just because she does something wrong doesn’t mean you have to do something wrong.”
But Jenelle didn’t like that Nathan wasn’t siding with her and began to get upset, so he left the room to avoid a fight. Is anyone on Team Jenelle these days?
Kailyn Lowry
Trouble started brewing the instant Kailyn revealed she was going to California for a weekend with her friend’s family. Her husband, Javi Marroquin, claimed he was fine with it, but we’ve heard that one from him before.
The moment Kail set foot in the Golden State, Javi was texting her nonstop. She tried ignoring him, but that didn’t go over well. Eventually they got into a big text message fight that ruined an entire evening for the family Kailyn was staying with.
“Your kids are here. You don’t need to stay that long. You are a bad mom. You need to think about your family,” Javi wrote in the hurtful messages.
Kailyn didn’t get emotional about their fight. Her focus remained on her family.
“I’m at a point where I’m only worried about my kids,” she told her friend. “I don’t need a husband. I don’t need any man. I’m not going to sit here and spend the next 10 years of my life trying to make it work if it’s just not going to work. It’s like a broken record.”
Things only got worse after Kailyn landed back in Delaware and she received a call from her friend, who said that Kailyn’s antics with Javi had made the trip “uncomfortable” for her mom.
“I can’t help it that my relationship with my husband is so f—ked up,” Kailyn told her friend, crying. “I don’t even want to go home to him because I’m so upset.”
Ending the tense phone call, Kailyn dialed home to let Javi have it.
“My friendships are being affected because of what you do,” she screamed through tears. “I can’t even come home and make this work with you. I’m so f—king humiliated. Thank you so much for ruining friendships and ruining people who are important to me.” The episode ended before we could see if Kailyn actually made it home, but things weren’t looking too good for the at-odds pair.
