What is this, the Fashion Police? Zoolander 2’s Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson dropped by Saturday Night Live on Saturday, February 6, to offer their opinions about the state of fashion in politics — and the hilarious duo didn’t hold back.
The pair, in-character as their onscreen personas of Derek Zoolander (Stiller) and Hansel (Wilson), put on their weekend best in a daring hot pink, leopard-print silk shirt and fluffy green-and-blue printed overcoat, respectively.
“Listen, Colin, we’re not here to talk about fashion,” Hansel told Weekend Update host Colin Jost. “We’re here to talk about the one thing everyone wants to hear male models talk about: politics.”
When Jost then asked what specifically the pair wanted to discuss, Hansel offered a meek, “fashion.”
The twosome then ran through the list of frontrunners on both sides of the political divide, doling out their fashion do’s and don’ts for each.
“Hillary’s from the ‘90s, which are very hot right now,” Hansel explained, citing revivals of the X-Files and Full House. Zoolander chimed in, adding that Clinton’s style reminded him of one of his “all-time fashion icons,” Kim Jong-un.
“Not to name drop,” the Blue Steel maven said, “but I’m pretty good friends with his sister, Kim Kardashi-un.”
Hansel and Zoolander also dissected fellow SNL guest Bernie Sanders’ fashion sense, calling him the “champion of the 99 percent — apparently the 99 percent off at JC Penney.”
After confusing GOP candidate Ted Cruz for Tom Cruise, the former rivals then tackled the Donald himself.
“Donny’s just like us. He has the classic male model looks,” Zoolander said, deadpan. When Jost asked if he was referring to his trademark Blue Steel facial expression, Zoolander answered, “Exactly. But Donny has Orange Mocha Crapaccino.”
