While shooting Interstellar in Iceland a few years ago, the New York native, 36, and Matt Damon, who also starred in the 2014 flick, dined out with Hathaway’s husband, Adam Shulman, at a Michelin-star restaurant. Though she hadn’t intended to depart from her diet that night, the Academy Award winner caved when Damon, 48, declared he was ready to eat whatever the chef wanted to serve him.

“So then I was the only chick and I’m the vegan and everyone’s just going with the flow,” she recalled in Tatler’s June issue. “So I asked [she puts on a small embarrassed voice]: ‘Is your fish local?’ And they said: ‘Do you see that fjord?’”

Unable to turn down a piece of fresh seafood prepared by an award-winning chef, Hathaway continued: “So I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting.”

The onetime Oscars cohost previously embraced a strict vegan diet when she began shooting The Dark Knight Rises around 2011 in an effort to get in peak physical shape. When it came time to play Fantine in Les Misérables in 2012, Hathaway previously told Vogue she lost 10 pounds by going on a cleanse before filming began. She then lost another 15 pounds in two weeks by living off of two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste per day.

“My issue is I just love it. So. Much. But the way I do it makes me unavailable for my son,” she told Tatler of why she ditched booze for good in October 2018. She shares her 2-year-old son, Jonathan, with Shulman. “My last hangover lasted for five days. I’d earned it: It was a day drinking session with friends that went into an evening birthday with one of my drinking buddies. I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening.”
