Someone get this kid an ingenuity badge! A Girl Scout from Colorado was able to increase her sales of Samoas by having a little fun with the name of the coconut cookie.
Charlotte Holmberg, who earned the title of “Cookie CEO” after selling more than 2,000 boxes in 2018, upped her game this year with a little help from Aquaman star Jason Momoa. More specifically, the fifth grader redesigned her boxes of Samoas to include a shirtless photo of the Game of Thrones alum. The cookie’s moniker was also aptly changed from “Somoas” to “Momoas.”
Not surprisingly, the elementary schooler’s clever sales tactic, which was endorsed by her mom who works in marketing, is already paying off. “The moms are getting really excited and they’re saying that they need them,” Holmberg told Denver’s 9News.
According to the Girl Scouts of Colorado, Holmberg’s genius marketing move “all started as an inside joke with her friends and family,” and has proven to be very successful. “She has sold her supply of 35 boxes or so and is no longer using the image to sell cookies – though her cookie season is ongoing.”
While some social media users have praised Holmberg for her clever thinking, calling the gag “all kinds of delicious” and vowing to buy “a lot” of boxes, others worried about copyright issues since Momoa (or DC Comics, the production company behind Aquaman) likely wasn’t consulted before Holmberg used that image.
Still, this is hardly the first time a member of the Girl Scouts has gotten especially thrifty when selling cookies. This Is Us star Mackenzie Hancsicsak sold about $500 worth of cookies while attending the SAG Awards last month, and in October 2018 a Canadian Girl Scout made bank after selling her treats outside a marijuana dispensary in Edmonton.
