Miley Cyrus kept her wedding cake plain and simple. The “Wrecking Ball” singer married longtime love Liam Hemsworth in a small ceremony held at the couple’s Tennessee home on Sunday, December 23, and though the nuptials boasted a gorgeous flower wall and an elegant off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown for Cyrus, the confection was surprisingly understated.
The Hannah Montana alum’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, provided a look at the cake (and surrounding pastries) in an Instagram photo shared on Thursday, December 27. “Wedding wouldn’t be complete without one shot from Dads out dated blackberry camera,” the “Achy Breaky Heart” crooner wrote. “Love seeing all so happy.”
In the snap, Cyrus, 26, is surrounded by family and friends with Hemsworth, 28, at her side. She is holding a knife and is about to dig into a two-tiered cake topped with simple white frosting. It appears that the sweet treat is resting on a wooden crate, and is surrounded by dozens of smaller cupcakes and dessert cups, which also feature white frosting.
In another photo, shared by pal Conrad Carr via Instagram, it’s clear the “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” songstress and her Australian actor hubby cut their wedding cake together, as they’re both shown holding the knife. And though the cake looked plain from the back, it also appears that the front of the celebratory dessert was adorned with pastel-colored flowers.
And get this: everything was vegan! “I made vegan truffle mac and cheese, vegan fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, barbecue baked beans, chicken buffalo, egg rolls, Caesar salad, a crudites platter, homemade corn muffins and one of [Miley’s] favorites is homemade vegan biscuits with apple butter,” a source reveals. “Dessert was vegan banana pudding and vegan vanilla cupcakes.”
Still, Cyrus’ wedding cake was much simpler compared to those of her peers. Nick Jonas, for example, whom Cyrus once thought she was going to marry, cut into an 18-foot confection when he married Priyanka Chopra in India in earlier this month. That dessert consisted of seven ornate tiers.
Though the Cyrus-Hemsworth nuptials may have been a bit of a surprise to fans, a source previously told Us Weekly that Cyrus’ desire to wed Hemsworth grew stronger after the Hunger Games star saved their animals during the Woolsey fire in Malibu in November.
“Liam caring for animals and helping others during the Malibu fire sealed the deal,” the insider noted. “Their love exploded after that. They are the perfect match.”
