The Free People Mena Fur Coat takes inspiration from the growing teddy coat trend but trades the shearling texture for a shiny, smooth fur look that has us running our hands down our arms all day. Don’t get it confused; we’re not rubbing our arms because we’re cold. This coat has us covered in that department, covering us up with its soft warmth. We weren’t shocked to see a coat this great sold out everywhere, but not to worry, because we managed to find it still in stock at Zappos for 44% off!

This coat has a cropped fit, its hem falling around our waist. The crop complements the boxy, oversized silhouette, making this coat a flawless choice for pairing with skinny and high-waisted bottoms. One shopper said it’s “cut to perfection.” Another commented on the sleeve length, happily reporting that it was just right and didn’t need any tucking or rolling. Multiple shoppers described the fit as roomy but stylish, one saying they can’t stop receiving compliments when wearing it.
This coat has two hip hand pockets and a double button closure that begins past the notched lapel. These buttons are a mix of black and brown for a little variation on what is otherwise a one-color, one-material coat. The collar and lapel are both totally covered in the fuzzy material, meaning we’re going to be resting our heads on our shoulders constantly if others haven’t already reserved the space.
We’re a big fan of the buttons because they let the oversized collar shine, also letting our top peek through. Having the coat buttoned up also creates shape, further proving that this coat is a statement piece and not just a tool we can use to keep warm in the colder weather.
The inside of this Mena coat is lined with a shiny copper color, which matches the gleam the coat gives off as parts of it catch the light. This lining helps to keep us warm and keeps things feeling smooth on the inside, especially for when we’re not layered up. This means we won’t be itching and scratching if we’re keeping it light up top with a cami or bandeau top.

There are so many ways to wear this Mena coat. Because of its brown color, it can seamlessly match with most things in our closet already. Color-wise, it looks super sophisticated with a neutral cream, ivory or beige. It can also match well with deep greens, light blues or vice versa. We definitely couldn’t go wrong with black or a light grey, either.
Outfit-wise, prepare to feel like “glam diva” with this coat on, or take it in another direction for a rocker-chic getup. We’re picturing this in so many ways. For a night out, we would go for a black, fitted minidress with these velvet heeled booties which match the coat perfectly. Finish off the look with a pair of statement hoop earrings along with a high bun and a cute crossbody bag and prepare to get posing. Don’t forget the gold shimmer eyeshadow!
For an edgier vibe, slip on a pair of sock-sneakers and some slick denim with a bodysuit underneath, or a cropped tee on top. Slap on a smokey eye and a bold red lip and voila, magic. This coat is capable of elevating any look and adapting to any mood we’re shooting for.
