As the temperature drops, the necklines of our clothes usually rise. We keep covered up, even when it means sacrificing our personal style. We end up feeling suffocated by our layers and our restrictions, and we want something that has the best of both worlds instead.
Gibson x Living in Yellow’s Mary Fleece Off the Shoulder Top is a collaboration between Gibson and fashion blogger Erin Schrader, so it makes sense that the best of both worlds converge serendipitously in this wintry top. Cut from a soft and fleecy tri-blend, this top is sure to keep us warm and cozy in the winter, all the while freeing our shoulders, which can easily be covered up with a cute scarf if need be. Or we can just cover one shoulder! Whatever we’re feeling at any given moment. A new look is just a quick sleeve-tug away.

This neckline of this long-sleeve top sits horizontally across our chest, just below the shoulders, leaving us room to shimmy in style. There is subtle stitching, which is the same color as the top, at the neckline, the sleeves and down at the hem, to create understated, clean blocking that helps to define the top’s shape.
Shoppers “can’t get over how soft [this top] is,” also loving how it’s long but not bulky. Many commented on how happy they are that the neckline actually stays in place and doesn’t droop down throughout the day, even though it’s not elasticized! We’re always happy to avoid a wardrobe malfunction!
This fleece top is super flattering and captivating, and we can style it in so many ways. It’s long enough, and certainly comfy enough, to be worn with just leggings, but we can dress it up so easily too. We can try pairing it with dark-wash jeans or tucking it into a skirt and slipping on a pair of booties or block heels. Because of the off-the-shoulder neckline, this top also grants us the wonderful opportunity to rock statement earrings and necklaces!
Just because this top shows off bare shoulders doesn’t mean we need to keep our shoulders totally bare. On her blog, Schrader recommends pairing it with our favorite bralette “for an added pop of appeal.” This creates a fun chance to play with color and texture and add an unexpected twist to the off-the-shoulder look!
Schrader takes pride in finding excitement in her “average” life and encourages her readers to do the same. That’s why she collaborated with Gibson, to create versatile, work-to-weekend pieces that anyone can not only wear, but feel and look great in. (Including anyone who happens to be rocking a baby bump!) This specific piece is an “effortless essential” meant to be both timeless and chic. Mission success.
Gibson was the perfect brand for Schrader to collaborate with because of its focus on creating “supersoft, updated basics for every day.” The brand is known for taking comfortable styles and adding “of-the-moment” details that turn “basic” into “beautiful.” This attention to detail has certainly earned our attention!
This fleece is currently available in five colors, but some are selling out quickly! Black is lusciously dark and ready to be paired with any color we throw at it. Navy is on the lighter side of the shade, but still dark enough to resemble a night sky just after sunset, just before the stars come out. Deep Violet is a purple with strong shades red and pink mixed in. This color is definitely inspiring us to find a matching lipstick, though it would look gorgeous with a nude, too.
Also available is Heather Grey, which has, yes, a heather texture featuring darker and lighter greys throughout. Grey Leopard is the same shade, but covered in leopard print! We love seeing a good leopard print in all-grey. It’s so fun but has a total sophistication to it at the same time.
If we’re in between sizes, Gibson and Schrader recommend sizing down for the perfect fit. This style comes in both regular and petite sizes, so we’re sure that everyone will be able to find their best size with ease!
This winter, shoulders are in style. We’ll always love our turtlenecks and mock-neck sweaters, but our skin needs to breathe sometimes, and this top will be there for us when it does!
