Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is mourning the death of his 2-year-old son.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,” the team’s general manager, Brandon Beane, wrote in a Saturday, August 22, statement shared via social media. “It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent.”
He continued, “We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this loss.”
ESPN and NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe further reported via X that a source said that Oliver, 28, was asking for “privacy and prayers at this very difficult time.”
According to Yahoo Sports!, Oliver’s son died after a reported drowning incident in June. Further details have not been revealed. Us reached out to the Bills organization for comment.
Oliver shared his son, also named Ed with his longtime partner, Dymond Gladney. The pair also share a daughter, Eva.
“I really attest a lot of my maturity and just my growth to my kids,” Oliver said in a September 2025 press conference, opening up about his fatherhood journey. “Having kids and having to be the head of a household and a leader and trying to guide them you know that that’s kind of then trickled over into football. Then, I got [to] become more patient and more, I guess, [observant] and paying attention to different things. … I don’t know what specifically they do, but they got a weird way of making you grow up real fast.”
Oliver recently missed Bills preseason practice, which head coach Joe Brady declined to address further in a Thursday, August 20, press conference.
“In two weeks you guys are going to get the full [report of] what the injuries are and whatnot,” Brady, 36, told reporters. “It’s not me just trying to hide information or anything like that.”
Oliver had been sidelined with an injury during the 2025-2026 NFL season, which required surgery.
“This who a character and can’t be serious🤣. Can’t take him no where!!” Gladney wrote via TikTok in October 2025, sharing footage of Oliver scooting in a wheelchair shortly after undergoing surgery. “The part of the NFL I hate the most, but thank yall for the well wishes and prayers. Minor setback for a major comeback.”
Gladney often shares glimpses of her family life with Oliver on and off the gridiron via her TikTok page.
“How blessed I am to have these sweet little hugs & know this is the only place I’m not responsible,” she captioned footage holding her son in February.
