Pajama party!? Multiple sources have confirmed that celebs are planning on wearing pajamas to the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20.
In a letter obtained by Variety on July 28, the show’s producers announced that the show will be taking place virtually instead of at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater like usual. “As you’ve probably guessed, we’re not going to be asking you to come to the Microsoft Theatre in downtown LA on September 20th,” they stated. “This year, it’s still going to be TV industry’s biggest night out … but we’ll come to you!”
So instead of figure-hugging gowns and sophisticated pantsuits, the stars intend on wearing their favorite pair of pajamas.
According to Us Weekly’s source, Zendaya is the only celeb who plans on going “all out with her look” for the virtual show. “She is the only celeb as of now getting full-on dressed up and doing a regalia look,” said the insider.
The Euphoria star is nominated for her role in the HBO series. During an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the 23-year-old told guest host Ben Platt that she still plans on dressing up. “It’ll be…probably just my family over here,” she said. “But I definitely want to pull a look and maybe just walk my living room carpet.”
But last July, Ozark star Laura Linney told The New York Times that she was considering wearing her pajamas to the ceremony. “I can’t imagine it’ll be anything other than virtual, but we can sit on the couches and celebrate,” the Outstanding Lead Actress nominee told the outlet. “Maybe I’ll wear my Snoopy pajamas.”
